It seems normal to me that Metallica rule in the states and Iron Maiden reign in England.

In my teens (early-mid 90s) I always thought all of it was shit, total nonsense except Sabbath but they were still way down the list whilst I was blasting In Utero and what have you.

I hear you, I got into rock/metal real young because my dad, but I was big into nirvana when they were around. Still are one of my favorite bands. My buddy had a tape of nevermind and I didn't know anything about these guys yet and he's like "Duude, you gotta hear this, best shit ever!" I've never seen someone so excited to show me something before and god damn it was mind blowing good.. weeks later their popularly was 10 fold for never seen anything like it kids were coming to school blasting nirvana

Nirvana are still my fave band jeff. There's been births, marriages and deaths but the impact of listening to Lithium in '92 as an 'event' is right up there. Completely life altering.
On the metal thing although I seriously dug sepultura I didn't get involved until I was well into me twenties. I now appreciate it hugely but I still don't think I really missed out looking back. Metal heads were such knobheads.

I completely understand ya. I still listen to those albums all the time. Even my kid who's 15 loves Nirvana. me & my son listen to those albums together! I started off as a metal head, but as I got older I started to get into other genres more. Nirvana was so good than even all the metal heads loved it too and if they said they didn't they were lying

Exactly! I've tried telling some people that around these parts and they just won't have it. Testify!

Haha! Man, everyone loved Nirvana. I've never seen anything like it before in my lifetime. Can't ignore it we were there!

I'd say in my lifetime oasis were probably the 'biggest' most followed and generated the most interest but they had loads of people who genuinely thought they were shite.
Nirvana as a sudden strike of lightning that changed everything and who affected a large amount of people at the time than yeah, absolutely nothing comes close.
Where are you from Jeff?

My opinion on the Maiden vs Metallica matter
Maiden obviously. But when Metallica were great, they were undeniable.
I like the first four albums, some tracks on Black and i really like Load too.

I'm from New England in the States hometown is in Connecticut. I remember Oasis, but I don't think they were as big over here.

New England autumns of the '90s blasting Nevermind. Amazing!!!

Ah okay, you're from the UK; that makes sense. I can imagine how big they were over there! I think in the US "Wonderwall" was pretty damn big, but outside of that I can't really remember. If there was ever any Oasis song I've heard all the time and people knew it was that one

I'm from Canada so both bands are equally as big here. They always sell out (except for Vancouver) concerts here.
I've only ever seen Metallica at a UK festival but I've seen Maiden 23 times and 7 of those were here in Canada, 4 of which were this year.
