I thought the band said they considered it an EP because it's the same five songs reworked.

I dunno about that, RYM has it classed as an album: https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/portrayal-of-guilt/devil-music/

Yeah, I can't see how the same 5 songs repeated could be an album in the conceptual sense. They don't even change really the notes in the second versions, the instrumentation is just different, you know? Also, if the band says as much, I don't see what the confusion is. EPs seem to usually run from 10 - 30 mins. I've seen metal or post rock bands have 30+ minute EPs before and hardcore or grind groups have 11 minute LPs. I think it's mostly an interpretation thing at this point , though it seems as though EP length has a reasonable limit in the lower 30s.

my point on the last page is this would make more sense as two EPs

this absolutely feels to me like two EPs rather than a single cohesive LP

Since it's one release, would it be weird to call it a compilation?

Every album is a compilation of individual songs if you wanna go there.

compilation of guilt is actually a better name for this band given the cohesion of their songwriting if you wanna go there

It was listed as an EP when I first commented, I didn’t know it was an LP. It doesn’t have the cohesive feel of an LP since half the tracks are the band and then the second half is orchestral + scream vox. Seems like two different concepts smashed together but sure, it’s an LP. My bad.

gonna spend the rest of the year arbitrarily editing this from LP/EP to whichever one it isn't presently logged as

To me, it can’t be an LP. It’s essentially 15 mins of original songs and 15 mins of remixes. lol We wouldn’t let a rapper get away with that.

this is literally Mondo Grosso's ATTUNE / DETUNE for edge bitches who like pretending a ouija board is an acceptable substitute for a dancefloor and a bong for a personality and um that genuinely does tell us all we need to know about how to classify it (it is lp)

The most popular record store here in small central IL town that sends out newsletters for their latest releases also has this album described as an EP and not an LP.

the first half of this is far and away their best stuff. last LP was underwhelming and prior to that i always felt that they had great moments but that they released a bunch of unfinished songs. these all feel full and go hard. idk how i feel about the string arrangements
