But New Religion is the best song
Also this benefits from a track reordering. Goodbye is a killer closer and not just because of the title.

Foothills is a perfect closer imo

If I'm being honest about 2/3 of this album feels like it could close an album.

Oh no dude… a Colton 4.5 and Johnny 3 averages out to like a 3.3 at best. I am officially worried I won’t love this

Glad to see this is growing on you Sowing!
I listened to the promo probably ten times prior to the release date and this was a huge grower for me. On first spin, only a few songs really stood out (I had avoided all the singles), and one of them, oddly enough, was In Your Garden Still, which at this point is one of my least favorite tracks. It really opened up from there.

Yeah, on my first spin I described it as sounding "thin" or "light", and I guess what I meant by that is that the whole album feels very breezy. At first, it felt that way without the songwriting chops to prop up "breezy", but a few listens later I'd now say that every song has a moment to justify its existence. I'm obviously still getting acclimated, but right now New Religion and Goodbye are tied for my #1 song here. As a full album, I think this might end up being one of my favorites of his -- it's not there yet, but I can sense it creeping up.

A grower indeed! Looking forward to your inevitable 2nd score bump 😂

I learned from my mistake with Fever Dream, haha. Matsson's floor is a 4, his ceiling is a 5. He's insanely consistent. We'll see where this lands but a 4.5 feels right.

An Atari 5, nice!
My attempt at a song ranking below, kinda a difficult album to do this for, as a lot of the songs are quite varied by TTMOE standards, so depending on your mood they each scratch a different itch.
1)Henry St.
2)Goodbye
3)Foothills
4)Every Little Heart
5)Slowly Rivers Turn
6)Major League
7)Bless You
8)Italy
9)New Religion
10)Looking For Love
11)In Your Garden Still

I’ve been torn between a 4.5 and a 5 for days but fuk it.. still finding new things to appreciate with each listen and the major highlights take me to a better place

And yeah it would be a challenge to rank this one. Nice to see the title track at 1 tho.. might be the slow burner of his career. I’m also still obsessed with Major League

Matsson's floor is littered with takeaway mugs and other people's spilt coffee
In a world where he has anything approaching a 5 though, this is probably it

Whenever I see JOTW commenting on my favorite folk bands: https://vine.co/v/O6XJtOrKTwx/
Nah, but I guess Matsson's voice isn't for everyone.
I think The Wild Hunt is his consensus 5/5, but this is very warm and like Atari said it takes you to a better place, and usually that's a recipe for me to eventually 5 something lol.

on my third or fourth listen this i'm liking it more and more
i think part of the reason it's a grower is that most of the songs don't have an immediate payoff. they reveal themselves very slowly and they're kind of... horizontal? in the sense that there's not really focus on choruses
