--I feel that opening paragraph hard. So much of music's appeal to me is rooted in nostalgia...--
Totally agree. I still love finding new music but nothing ever makes me feel the same way as the first time I heard some of my most favorite albums or even a new genre. Having said that, most my friend have stopped actively seeking new music. They're happy to listen to the same thing they been listening to since we were all in High School/college.
--the solos for "the god that failed" and "the unforgiven" are in metallica's top 10.--
Exactly. Say what you want about what Bob Rock did to the band, but he pulled magic from Kirk.
--I really don't mind if this is by-the-numbers. Metallica's kinda earned that right with all the solid albums they've put out over their career. --
Nostalgia and legacy ;)
--great review Willie, especially your opening paragragh....i too embrace it for the same exact reasons--
Thanks. I figured there was no reason to try to hide it. For a majority of fans, nostalgia is going to play a part... but I think that's okay.
--i liked hardwired but i thought the singles for this sucked--
There are better songs than the singles. If you try one song, listen to "Crown of Barbed Wire" and "Chasing Light" if you like the first one.
--Weak album as fuck, worse than Hardwired, but I'm gonna spin it maybe once more or twice--
I definitely disagree with that. I feel like this is the better, more refined and original, of the two albums.
--This beginning of this review made me think of Fall Out Boy *Heart Emoji*--
Why? Definitely not a Fallout Boy fan, so whatever it was, it was accidental.

Easily better than hardwired. Way less filler. More of a overall mood/vibe. And hetfield kills it they did a good job here most metallica fans will be happy solid stuff

I think Lars played like 4 different beats on this album. Painfully lazy.

Lars has always been a hack drummer. He’s like a really good band manager that also played an instrument

Lars' big thing is arrangements, just putting songs together and making it work. He's not the greatest drummer but he is very much a song man.

Gonna listen to this tonight. I was woefully underwhelmed by the first few songs released and I actually dug hardwired for the most part.
Seems a lot of people are gushing over inamorata. Saying it’s on the Spit Out The Bone tier of best songs they’ve released in the last twenty or so years.
