My AOTY list is gonna need adjustment and I hate when that happens.

Edit: Actually it may not, great album but didn't crack it.

This sounds like the apocalyptic, decaying, corrupted version of Pentangle.

Eleventh hour and this the only album I’ve heard from this year that I’m honestly loving, absolutely incredible what Lord Abore and Mary Flynn does with 9 minutes, a simple story, and a cyclical melody

Not yet but that one’s next on the chopping block, running through all these Irish weird folk albums that I didn’t get to earlier like a true dunce

That one, ØXN, Lisa O’Neill all getting played right quick

The JFF was my favourite although the others have some individual tracks that might rate higher than anything on that one - good year for the Irish!

Yeah the JFF was ace, this is good but I'm not seeing it in the same light as that

JFF had a good album with a handful of great tracks, but it barely scratches the peaks here

If the JFF record had a better final 3 it would have been unstoppable. I don't really get the hype around this, although I by no means think it's bad

fog can't feel ya on the final 3 being a step down, the last part of Within a Mile of Dublin is one of the high points of the album and Dirty Old Town is just class BUT yes the peaks on False Lankum >>>>

Yeah I thought the dirty old town cover doesn't really bring the song to life, don't really think the reading of it is right, weak compared to the Pogues version. Within a mile is good solid folk music but maybe it just doesn't really wow me. Much like how I feel about this record

Why did it take me 9 months to listen to this? I am absolutely livid at myself.

I’ve come to the conclusion I don’t actually like this. Not my kind of dark, dreary or repetitive (despite some stylistic change ups between tracks parts of this are just a massive slog). It’s kind of… boring (*hides*)

I do feel this is the 2023 album no one will now listen to in 2024 - just what I refer to as a ‘respect and park’

The Irish folk one from the 2023 glut that actually has the repeat play legs for me is the John Francis Flynn

Hard disagree cause I'm gonna be coming back to both for years
