Some great moments on this but I prefer Delta Machine tbh.

Not a massive fan of the early plinky plonky early 80s style of DM but also I kind of like there’s nods to that here.

This album is just very representative of everything they’ve done.

Sometimes I find the ‘rock’ version of DM you get on the mid 90s albums and Delta a bit like 10% tougher/more gothic INXS

Nine Inch Nails stole their thunder a bit that decade.

Sweet spot for me is definitely Black Celeb to Violator but they’ve done good individual tunes either side…and now I also think this is a tight album if a tiny bit retread’y

Doof doof didn't Flood produce Songs of Faith and Devotion (or a track at least) and as you say Nails.

Yeah, they were clearly covering similar territory but I think NIN were more convincing by the mid 90s - plus DM were having big trouble outside the studio, that they survived was impressive.

I just feel they released ‘half an album of good shit’ on each release after Violator - there’s a few classics on Song of F&D but no one can convince me that is great front to back. ‘Exciter’ might have been the most recent consistent album before this, but that one lacked standout cuts a bit.

Absolutely perfect haha.

May of been a different outcome if Hutchence lived on the Fryerns estate and went to school with Alison Moyet.

DM are a bit dad rock so thought of U2 but that band are entirely frigid - can’t wiggle your hips to U2.

INXS on the other hand

fogza - I didn't mean no one had already tried to convince me ;)

It 100% has three of me all time favourite DM songs so it's cool, it's a strong 3.5/almost a low 4 for me.

Definitely prefer Masses/Celeb/Violator though

really love when they get in a Gore-led song in there, especially one as good as Soul With Me, fucking fantastic stuff

And shit, Never Let Me Go is an instant classic

For now the two singles are my clear highlights, gotta say. That said, I feel other songs are slowly starting to grow too. People Are Good for example is some really cute Kraftwerk worship completed by a sweet sadboi chorus

This is ok but sounds like another non-essential DM release. Genuinely a bit boring in places.

don't agree fogz, think this has the potential to be an essential one

Scores high for consistency and variety - loses out on 'classic' songs, the closer is a classic for me and the opener isn't too far behind but I don't think this has many songs that would make a top 30 tracks for the band
