4th listen this afternoon and after a quick spin through the previous two for some context, can’t think of any reason why I’d give this less than 4.5. Nearly 20 years after Playing the Angel with 3 average albums in between - this really has delivered way beyond any expectations.

Only one listen so far but I was bored to tears. Not getting these 4s and 4.5s but maybe it’ll open up more with further plays.

I'm in between. The first track ruled but the next 3 did very little for me. Now I'm on "My Favorite Stranger" and I'm really enjoying things again.

Yeah hard agree about the opener. The track that follows it is so weak tho, it really kills the momentum for me. Highlights are for sure here tho, I’m noticing them more on my second spin, like Before We Drown

My Favourite Stranger is top five with the opener and the last two (maybe last three) songs

Before We Drown is great too, maybe that squeezes in

Most people think the third song (think lead single) is best but not for me, though it’s still mid ranking maybe

Soul With Me shows that Gore is legit the best non front man vocalist ever

Soul With Me I wasn't sold on the first two listens but now I think it's really great turning up mid way through the tracklist

I actually love that outro. Anyone else?
Bookends, My Favourite Stranger, Soul With Me, Before We Drown
Those are my top picks

I liked this, and I think it has a good chance of growing. I'm a much bigger fan of the dark/sinister sounding songs than the poppy ones though. I'm not a real DP fan because I've really only ever heard Violator and Spirit, and the latter is actually my favorite haha.

They nailed it with the darker songs. Should have insisted more with them here and pull off a Blackstar.

I think there’s enough of an underlying darkness throughout - not sure I’d have wanted the whole thing totally funereal, might have been a somber snooze fest
