"is the summary a tongue-in-cheek dig at the spread of review scores or"
I'll just say it is so I feel more clever than I really am

Really wished I loved this record as much as the rest of you, but I'm glad you guys like it! Also seems like they're gaining a lot more traction lately which is just wonderful

"Johnny actually took the time to listen to this lol"
Bruh that's what I'm saying... more importantly, he took the time and actually said some positives about it

“…Save us from the Archon.”
The only time I’ve ever seen them mentioned anywhere but that’s spot on. Band is gr8. Had forgotten about them entirely

Maybe we could get Johnny to listen to Stillworld while we’re at it…

This record is the result of a band polishing the same turd 3/4x over. Removing riffage that previously made for interesting listen and replacing it with “I have feelings and I like breakdowns and worship djent”
I mean I totally get a band not wanting to try something risky. That’s what this record is to me, just a collection of shit they know their fans enjoy and not much else. Maybe add a layer or 2 of djoint-is-sphere, some technically improved cleans and hooks, more of the same open chugs and formulas that half a dozen popular acts have beaten to death already.

Stillworld has the riffs. Not much of that here

I'm a little conflicted. I love the vox but I feel like they leaned into the cleans just a tad too much. The songwriting feels better than Greyview (which I still loved) but still doesn't grab me and hold me like Stillworld did. As far as *.core goes, this is still pretty damned good.

The reddit meltdown over this album was very amusing to see. Thousands of comments of people ugly-crying with sentiments like "best album of the last decade", "best album I've ever heard in my life", "metalcore will never be the same after this". They're such histrionic drama queens over there lol

I think it has too much clean vox as well. However saying this doesn't have riffs is just dumb

Too much? Honestly it'd be nice if there was more actually. Marcus is emotive af I like him

it's just a preference thing. This band used to have almost no cleans

Yeah I guess that might explain it. I just like how emotionally captivating it is and the contrast between the heavy stuff and the lighter ambience is wonderful

Yeah I re-listened to Stillworld and honestly it may not even be as good as this. Guess the band kinda sounds the same throughout their entire discography lol Dunno why I had Stillworld on a pedestal. It’s more chuggy than I recall. Pretty bland really.
My final statement here: band is pretty generic with some decent djent here and there, overcooked breakdowns, but are ever-so slightly improving and that’s about it really.
