If P4 didn't have Reptile then this would be better for sure! I have a feeling this may grow on me the more I listen to it, already picking up on a lot of new things after a few listens. Silhouette is a huge wtf moment still, can't get over that lol

This definitely doesn't have anything like Reptile or Satellites.

this is definitely the band pushing themselves harder to find new flavors than P4 was. it's weirder, even more progressive in spirit (and a little messier). P4 was just about a perfect album to my ears, so this is a great next step even if I love it ever so slightly less

This is better than P4, the variety and return of more Bowen electronics is a return to form while still doing something different

Think that's why I'm a little disappointed by this album, Reptile is by far the most creative work these guys have done. I know they have it in them. The songs on here feel a bit Periphery by the numbers, extended.
They're trapped in a Djent prison. Be cool to see them really branch out more.
I get that this is proggier, but I'm not grasping the variety as much as others are.

Lune is much more like Satellites, but I agree with your larger premise

Good review, you worded my opinion perfectly while not even having my opinion really figured out yet. Thanks Anthoony.

"They're trapped in a Djent prison. Be cool to see them really branch out more."
i feel like they consistently branch out more than nearly any modern metal band, and aren't anywhere near close to as beholden to the djent sound as the rest of the djent bands
also i most definitely 5'd this before release and my rating was bumped down lol

Honestly, P4 is the best Periphery album mainly because the songwriting was a lot more consistent. It still relied on a lot of the same production, instrumentation and whatnot from previous albums. But the songs felt like actual complete songs.
Compared to this where 80% of the time it they're mashing up different styles into the same songs, which they've done numerous times beforehand and it's not very good. You can kinda get away with that with the +10 minute songs like Reptile and the two that are on here but for the rest it just feels so out of place.

its almost as if you can build upon and improve on past templates without it being retreads as literally every one of those songs is better than their counterpart bar maybe bad thing
