this is like a 4.5/5 for cloning the Jester Race sound, but like a 3/5 for creating something as memorable and moving

The fun of this is not lost on me though, the Dead Eternity riff in Vast Reaches Unclaimed put me in an instant good mood. Heard a little December Flower earlier on. A peppering of Lord Hypnos after that. It knows what it's doing, I know what it's doing, and it's hard not to appreciate the charm

Couple tracks in, it's alright. Anyone else hearing some Obsequiae (minus the folk elements)?
Edit: nvrmd, this is Obsequiae+Inexorum, now it all makes sense lol

Really nice stuff. Not as catchy as I thought i'd be judging by the 1st track, but there's some immersion, variety and nice songwriting for sure

This excellent album will help fill the painful void of disappointment left by recent releases from In Flames, Soilwork, At The Gates, Insomnium, The Halo Effect, etc. This is the kind of MDM I can put on repeat for days.

I couldn't imagine giving this a 4.5, there's absolutely zero originality here. This is a slavish imitation of a style and they pulled it off well, but I'd rather just listen to the originals again rather than someone making a literal carbon copy of the sound.

This is a fun time. Definitely not blazing any trails, but honestly this genre's kinda been creatively bankrupt for a while and there's only so much you can do with it. All I'm looking for are sick riffs and song lengths that respect my time, which this album does in spades

Kinda underwhelming.

Before having heard the entire album, the few songs I heard reminded a bit of Intestine Baalism but now I'm seeing some early In Flames comments and I'm confused and will have to listen and evaluate.

This is pretty obviously early In Flames worship, but somehow I like it, despite it being pretty much a blatant ripoff of that style. It's giving me pause for how similar it sounds to Subterranean / Lunar Strain / TJR (to a lesser extent) and I wanna bash it for bringing absolutely nothing new to the table, but damn I enjoy this a lot more than The Halo Effect
I mean this definitely scratches a lot of itches. In a genre filled with garbage and horrible production, this at least goes hard enough for me to not turn it off after the first 2 songs
Across the Neverwhen is amazing, the Chuck vocals in certain parts really do it for me

Good to see folks still finding this and liking this (or maybe not so much :P). This might be one of my favorites from this year.
