I'd say it's at the fifth track that they settle into their sound.

@sab i think so, honestly i don't even remember but my lastfm history says so.
@willie that's like half the album to get settled in, not sure it's worth the effort (unless absolute bangers await WHICH I will find out soon enough)

The second half indulges more in slower songs so you might like it even less lol. Personally I found it solid all around, if a bit unspectacular. I don't think Host the band is better than Host the album (which I find much more solid than it's given credit for) so far haha

I'm a big fan of Host, the album, but it definitely wears its influences on its sleeves. I give this one more artistic credit (whatever the hell that actually is) for blending some styles and coming away with something a bit more unique. It's like electronic doom almost, so that right there could turn away more people than it attracts.

What are the best tracks to check out on here?

My personal favorites are Inquisition, Wretched Soul, and Years of Suspicion

Never knew this existed. I loved Ulver's electro-goth album, had no idea the paradise lost guys had been doing exactly that almost 2 decades earlier.

The Ulver electro stuff and the Paradise Lost electro stuff are very different from each other, but both styles are really good, IMO.

y'all straight tripping if you say this doesn't sound like the Host album, it sounds EXACTLY like it.

Ulver went electronic first, Themes from William Blake's Marriage of Heaven and Hell was 1998 and Host was 1999. There was also the Disguised Masters remix album from Arcturus in 1999 that had Garm too. Garm was also heavily involved with the trip hop album from Fleurety in 2000, Department of Apocalyptic Affairs.

One Second was in 1997, though, which was semi-electronic. It was definitely a big change from Draconian Times (not as big as the leap from Nattens madrigal to Themes, obviously).
This doesn't sound like the Host album. When is the last time you heard it?

After the Enslaved loop I finally find time to listen to this, I'm enjoying it so far.

Glad you didn't forget about this. That Enslaved album can definitely be a time suck, though. There's a lot to pick up on.

Yep, there's a lot of stuff orbiting around it, conceptually and musically.
Divine Emotion was the song that grabbed me the most on first listen.

My favorite song on this is still the opener. It has the most doom influence.

Pretty decent on the first spin, although I wanted to like it more that I currently do, so have a tinge of disappointment at the moment.
Will give this a few more goes, let it sink in.

My expectations weren't quite met either, but this also didn't sound like Host II, which is kind of what I was expecting and I was happy about that part.

Just gave it another once over and the last three songs drag things down a little bit for me. The Tomorrow's Sky to Hiding From Tomorrow three track run is my stand out so far.
Putting Host on now for a direct comparison.

I'm not going to fully commit to this opinion yet...but I'd prefer Host Pt. 2 over this.

I don't think a Host Part II would have been bad, and it would have probably been catchier, but I enjoy enjoy this none-the-less.
