I also have a weird opinion on In Flames. I'm obsessed with Siren Charms it is top 4 for me. Battles is top 3 worst In Flames for me next to I The Mask and Lunar Strain.

I would even go as far to say that if you took only the first 8 songs from each In Flames album Siren Charns is the best.

In general I am obsessed with Siren Charms, Come Clarity, Clayman, Foregone, and Reroute To Remain but I strongly enjoy Sountrack and Colony.

Their other albums all have one or two great songs except Battles doesn't have a great song.

But A Sense of Purpose and Dead Ships each have like 6 or 7 great songs as well.

I can't understand the appeal of Siren Charms. It's probably their most bland album. There's nothing terrible about it. It just feels generic and lifeless. The production is way too sterile.

honestly there is some great instrumental work in Siren Charms, it's just bogged down by bland production and Anders' shitty vocal performance

Battles works if you cross your eyes and pretend it's a Chevelle or Breaking Benjamin album or something along those lines. Kind of like how people keep trying to tell me that Risk is actually good if you disregard the Megadeth name on the cover.
Siren Charms is just bad no matter how you slice it or try to approach it.

I really don't hear it Storm. Siren Charms was almost unbearable to me. I can't believe some people think Rusted Nail in particular is a good song. Production sucks, vocals are at their worst, and the overall writing of that song kills me. For a song that's supposed to be a radio hit, it has no hooks and the melodic structure makes no sense. It's the pinnacle of what people hated in modern In Flames.
If I had to pick between Siren Charms and Battles, I'd maybe pick Battles but that is NOT a compliment.

Siren Charms felt like the band trying to strip back their sound and go for something more minimalist. To me it comes across like a genuine experimental effort marred by poor production. Rusted Nail is absolutely the weakest song on that record, though.
Battles is the band playing SiriusXM Octane hard rock and I can't stand it; it feels so fake and design-by-committee. Bjorn and Anders admitted years later that they had too many cooks in the kitchen for that record.
