Very fun record. Love Lilian.

Yeah, despite my general disappointment and apathy for this record I do have a soft spot for Lillian. It's feels quite incongruous on here though, sounds right out of One for Sorrow era Insomnium.

I really want to like this album more than I do. Hopefully it will grow on me with more listens. Godforsaken is the biggest standout for me. Heart Like a Grave and Shadows of the Dying Sun are my favorite Insomnium albums, so I guess it's hard to live up to those two.

Amazing song. It’s the pale morning star of this album. Honestly it’s on par if not better IMO.

Yeah that's kinda accurate actually, Starless Paths and Godforsaken are prolly the 2 best songs they've released in a while.

Pale Morning Star has become one of my favorite songs of all time. Gives me chills every time I listen to it. I agree with Godforsaken and Starless Paths being the best songs on the new album.

not gonna lie this version of insomnium sound almost nothing like the band i got to know and love 10 years ago. thats not a bad thing, just really odd since they used to have such a consistent sound over their first 6 records.

This is my last comment about the song but I think Godforsaken is the best song this band has ever made. Im ready to get roasted.

I don’t always trust hasty impressions. Albums such as this that need to be taken in as a full body of work need time to marinate IMO.

also i'm leaning more towards a 3 since the dudes on this record are actually shorter - the good cuts are more substantial for sure.
i can't help but feel somewhat disappointed in the fact they've essentially become more of a melodic black metal band rather than a melodeath band. they experimented with the black metal sound with belzebubs (if you guys want to hear insomnium immitating dark fortress, you're in luck) but it's clear they decided to flesh it out into insomnium's music too. i just don't find it very compelling - not like i did 'shadows of the dying sun', for example.

Meh, recycled melodies, riffs, everything. Only songs that stand out, Godforseken and The Unrest.

True. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

I'm not really picking up the melodic black metal description Noctus, but thats an interesting take. I think this album will only get better with more listens like Winters Gate did.
