I wonder if his next album will be even more low effort

Maybe it's better if you don't know the answer to that

I'm telling you, next album's going to be a belter just to make everyone dissing this look like idiots. We're all just pawns in Mac DeMarco's wacky game of space chess.

listening to 2 a lot it dawned on me this dude is actually a killer guitarist. actually really really good. maybe I would enjoy this because of that

lol of course you would say that Mac DeMarco is a killer guitarist. Possibly worse than saying the guitarwork on Marqueue moon isn't that good.

He's pretty good, but to me, his appeal is more in pep and hooks. And this is very mellow and paced. But like I said, if you like more mellow DeMarco, this might be a decent listen.

pretty sure I just said the guitar on Marquee Moon doesn’t stand out as one of the albums best qualities, definitely wouldn’t say it’s not good

Mac’s easy going sound might mask how good his playing actually is. listen to the phrasing on Dreaming or Ode to Viceroy. there’s a lot of detail and subtlety to the way each individual note is played in relation to the rest. that’s a quality only the best guitarists have imo

He’s a musician I started out watching live videos. “Cookin up something good” yeah he always seemed good at guitar doing that one. But the guitars on marquee moon, a 9.5, are unreal

gotta revisit that one actually. but yeah Mac is nasty with it not only for his ear for melody but also just his phrasing. reminds me a bit of the guitar on Bark Your Head Off Dog

2 was such a joy but I could tell by the middle of salad days that Mac’s shtick would wear thin quickly. Everything he has released since has been bland to say the least

yeah there aren’t a ton of Mac songs I fully love but Dreaming and Ode to Viceroy are 2 of the best songs ever made in my eyes

I don’t even like the outro bit of Viceroy but the verse and chorus are so good they make me wanna start smoking again

yea 2 has some serious bangers on it. I remember linking the music vid to viceroy on Tyler, the creators formspring and he then retweeted it lol

tyler the creator and formspring in the same sentence, that's gotta be the most early 2010s comment I've ever read

review is on point, this is forgettable

"2 was such a joy but I could tell by the middle of salad days that Mac’s shtick would wear thin quickly" also correct and Another One would clearly confirm that but I would maintain that This Old Dog was a step up again

But that's now 2 forgettable releases in a row, in 4 years' time. Nothing substantial since 2017
