moderately savage hitpiece on this guy's Mercury prize nom and nepo babe credentials from the Independent
ngl pretty based considering that
1) same writer as their 0 star Donda review
2) uses to platform to rep Lankum, Rina Sawayama and Little Simz instead

Disabled, Black, Female, Lesbian and she’d be saying how the album deserves to win as its come from a place of struggle.
Complete shit that has just been repeated now for decades and people are absolutely sick of it.

first they took Britain's four chords and then they took are prizes - buncha old cunts crying over Carlsbergs in a proudly British pub with a majority of empty seats and a pissed upon boombox that has never not played Wonderwall at any the point in the past three decades
|
| |
That’s no sort of retaliation. Come on mate, just see through the blatant bollocks.

i am unsure who you're trying to wave that finger at? a lot of great art does come from a place of struggle and a lot of artists from marginalised have strong and distinctive voices that do justice to that (Rina and Simz both v fair examples, though not really the focus of the article at all) + a lot of entitled pricks made terrible art (have not heard this guy so won't weigh in there)
if you want to talk about major artists, mainstream media and optically driven bollocks then start an Ice Spice thread - not sure what the game is here, unless it's that the mercury prize as a whole is a crock of shite, in which case maybe fair or maybe are you still coping that a black artist won it over OK Computer?

Nope.
I’m just fucked off by the double standards of these cunts who people agree with based soley for ideological reasons rather than ones based on merit, credibility or risibility if necessary.
She completely slagged Kanyes album did she? Yeah bet it had absolutely nothing to do whatsoever with aligning himself to Trump.
Anyway I completely agree that things are born of struggle, regardless of what that struggle stems from.
Still doesn’t mean some tripe comes from it as well in the form of ‘art’

If you had taken three minutes to read the Kanye review, you would know that it is extremely transparent about its ideological motivations, which have nothing to do with Trump and a lot to do with Kanye featuring alleged rapists for edgecred (on top of which it makes a very fair analysis of the album's credibility and artistic merit, though these are obviously not the basis for its rating)
And sure, there are limp albums about valid struggles, but I'm still lost on the relevance to this thread
|
| |
I suggested if the exact same album was made by someone from a ‘less privileged’ background the piece would without question be less of a pointed attack.
As for the Kanye thing yeah I haven’t read it, but if it was made by someone who wasn’t Kanye I wonder if it would have been written differently?

well yeah, I doubt it would have read as harshly/been published at all if someone marginalised had been nominated and was as bad as the article claims poorboi Fred is, but I'd have thought you of all people have posted enough about vapid pricks squandering their privilege to get on board with that narrative
and (probably fortunately) Donda could never have been made or promoted by anyone other than Kanye, so that's going to have to remain an open question
|
| |
Yes of course I do, but I’m not a professional journalist who has to remain impartial when casting a critical eye.

Music industry "awards and prizes"... yuck.

Idk I love his boiler room
|
| |
Yeah me too, for about 10 minutes, before it became y'know, boring and overly repetitive
|
| |
Wrong genre to be listening to DJ sets of then lol I prefer repetition and a cohesive set over him getting all fancy wit it and I feel like that's the shared sentiment especially since he's mainstream af now
|
| |
The shared sentiment can enjoy the salty notes of my gooch. If I had to liken the vibe I get from Fred's music to something I'd say he's the musical equivalent of getting a love heart tattoo around your butthole
|
| |
At times, painfully gay, in the original sense of the word
