Not sure about this release so far.
Might be those comparisons to Hollywood which I don't like either

I LOVE Hollywood and I don't see how they compare. IAH is still the goat.
Not feeling this one sadly =( that's the case since Heavy Fruit.

A fantastic album, personally I love the plethora of riffs. Adam Tanbouz creativity is superb and I love when he goes heavier, especially when he inserts the Meshuggahesque licks. I am impressed with how cohesive the album is, yet they managed to sprinkle/insert the signature sounds from the first three albums without it sounding forced. I probably could be more critical and find more faults, but at this point in life I am happy to have a band I followed from the start continue to produce excellent music and enjoy it. Never know when it will come to a screeching halt and end, see ETID.

This album is filthy.

Production on this is so flat, huge step down from white bat

Actually can't believe no one's mentioned it, the guitars have very little clarity to them, the vocals are quiet, the drums don't hit as hard, nothing hits as hard as it should. Pretty much hampers every song here
Idk if it was killed in mastering or if the mix just wasn't as good but it's very unengaging

It's not disgustingly bad, it's just a noticeable downgrade imo

yeah great riffs but I don't know maybe some of those choruses are getting on my nerves
I will definitely give them props for evolving their sound, it's a marked difference from the couple of records before

Not as good as White Bat, but it's a great follow up. I just wish he'd scream a liiiittle bit more at times

Agreed on the amount of screaming. Just give me some more of the screaming that was featured on Suck!

"yeah great riffs but I don't know maybe some of those choruses are getting on my nerves"
this has always been a problem for me with HIL. they'll go from messhugah worship verses to some doo-wop shit in the chorus (see lifeless lemonade). I just try to ignore it

feel like thats their appeal for a lot of ppl tho lol. like if ya want a heavy band instrumentally that isnt necessarily a heavy band vocally and has a great ear for hooks, these the boys for that

Lifeless Lemonade has been the standout track since they released it as a single. Circus Circus and Return to the Garden are also really good.
I don't know, though, the album starts to feel a little samey and I must have a bad ear because the mixing at times gives me ear fatigue. It's like the drums and vocals are battling with each other to be at the forefront. I think lowering the drums prominence just a hair would have helped.

do agree this could use more diversity which for me is ultimately prob the biggest thing keeping this away from being the same tier as their first three. i dig the sound they have going here but they coulda def swapped animals or smth for like an interloper/uncanney valley typa jam (altho even w that this is still better than white bat)

Apparently I'm the only one missing the insane vocal hooks and melodies of IAH =(
