This is better than most bands that change their sound or become progressively softer. Some people are getting upset, but I would rather have this album than "Darkbloom" by We Came As Romans, That Architects album, Darker Still, or Manic and Pressure by Wage War.

Today I learned that Dayseeker and Dayshell are not the same band

Every song on here is exactly the same, especially the second half of the album.

Does he still whine about his girlfriend/ex in every song?
Anyway he's got a good voice but strains to be as melodramatic as possible and it gets tiring fast.

"Does he still whine about his girlfriend/ex in every song?"
quite a bit of the album was written in the light of his dad's passing from what I've heard

Very mediocre. Neon Grave is fantastic tho

It's ok. If they would have used more guitars over the layers of synths it would have been a lot better. Sleeptalk had the perfect balance of synths and guitars. This album is a bit too poppy for my tastes.

Agreed with the comment on Rory going into a solo project if this is the direction they’re going. Also just to clarify because I didn’t make it clear in the review, Sleeptalk is def better than this

Feels more like a Hurtwave album than a Dayseeker one but l honestly like it. Nice and chill listen.

Solid review, slight points I feel different about but I’m also a big fan of this shift towards a more poppy sound, don’t particularly care it’s too hurtwave-y. I initially felt the same way about the instrumentals but I’ve grown to like them more over repeated listens. Also reading press reviews on this album amuse me because to remotely call this album metalcore seems a bit silly to me at this point, tho I get that’s where their roots are from.

Calling this band metalcore is a fallacy. But I understand how you feel on the instrumentals, they haven’t particularly grown on me but i should probably revisit.

I agree with pretty much all the points of this review. I might dig Rory's screams a bit more but that's the only difference. I'm definitely enjoying this album now, but due to the lack of interesting parts from the 3 band members not named Rory, I don't know how well this will stand the test of time. There are some really good hooks here, but not enough to completely make up for the lack of interesting guitar parts. Sleeptalk had a perfect mix of the two.

got around to listening to this. Apart from the singles (except for Crying While You're Dancing) Homesick is pretty great

I thought this album was awful. The only song I thought was okay was the last track, but I hate it when bands start to go for the poppy sound, it rarely works out. Plus I can hear the auto tune in the vocals which makes it even worse.

Yeah he really can. Midnight Eternal and Dark Sun are fantastic. That seamless segue between them is too.
