I just can't get into their new sound. Hated the last one and based on what I've heard from this I'll hate it as well.

If you didn’t like the last you won’t like this for sure
Personally I dig all three of their styles over their career and this is a more confident and better written and performed version of Tranquility Base for me

Honestly thought tranquility base was better than this. It's still very mid but had some signs of life on it

I couldn't stand TBH&C; the songs were boring, but most of all, everything there had a sense of 'superiority'; like Alex and the band were patting their selves on the back for being so intelligent and composing such 'imaginative' songs. Not to mention the terrible vocal performance and overall boring songs.
Thankfully, imo, The Car is a step-up.
Yeah, this doesn't have the energy they had before, but I actually found some interesting songs here like "I Ain't Quite Where I Think I Am, "Sculptures of Anything Goes, the 2nd half of "Body Paint" and "Hello You".
A lot of the lyrics are still moronic, and the vocal delivery is questionable in several moments. But, unlike TBH&C, this is actually listenable.
Ranking their albums:
Humbug > YFWN > Whatever... > Suck it And See = AM >> The Car >>>> TBH&C

It’s alright. ‘Musically’ it’s lovely but the package is a bit turgid. Too arsey.
There’s only flashes of the tounge in cheek piss taking and genuine Northern no ‘messin and nowt to do with ponciness that made them so relatable.
Still, it’s in its infancy. I’ll probably 5 it in 7yrs.

Having said that Sculptures of Anything Goes does actually speak about all that.
Hmmmm
|

I like it a lot more after 4 listens. I just wish someone else sang the songs. Basically how I feel about AM since 2006
|
| |
so far this is making me think of prefab sprout if they were bad
|
| |
The first song reminds me of a Wet Wet Wet ballad... I like it. XD
What's the general opinion of the album from fans of the band? Does anyone know?

This wasn't too bad actually, a couple of gorgeous songs. I would prefer it if they had mixed in some other styles.
|
| |
Yeah, I do think some meatier rock songs could have helped the pacing a bit for me. Maybe that will grow off as I listen to it more.
I'm with you though, Clay. I didn't think it was too bad. Some nice songs on here.

@hellojoe In general this looks to have been very well received by Arctic Monkeys fans that are still Arctic Monkeys fans
You have a load of people on the their Facebook comments and that saying ‘Why can’t they go back to AM’ or ‘I miss the days they played guitars’ etc. but it’s been well received by this who enjoyed the last one

I found this to be kind of a snooze on my first listen, but every listen since has been better and better.
