Feels like this is the 1975 record for people who don't really like The 1975. To me the whole point of them is that they follow every impulse (even if that sometimes results in some big strikeouts) so to hear them sanded down like this is kind of a bummer

Can't say I totally agree there. The fact that they reigned in the excess on this one was a huge plus for me, even if the results weren't always great

As a fan of this band previously this was so boring. Every album gets slightly worse for me

Brilliant record, one of the years’ best. I think the key word here is ‘consistent’ that everybody has been throwing about - while this isn’t quite on the same level as Brief Inquiries, songs like Part of the Band and When We Are Together are genius. Just a consistently great record.

Oh Caroline is definitely what this band is always trying to hit when they go for upbeat pop. best song of the album for me

This album is incredible.
Matty truly is one of us and speaks for us all.
A true representation of a generations plight has now been blasted into the face of all and sundry in a squalling thrall of pop, rock and rebellion wrestled from the tawdry hands of the corporate and given back to the disadvantaged in the form of recorded pathos.
Rise up and gather around. Hope has been restored. Those in their 30s have proven to be a robust stoic generation of creative rage who will never be forgotten.

nothing they've done since their debut has really interested me but i dug what I've heard off this so far. Wish they'd do an aggressive album or EP in the vein of that track "People" they dropped a few years ago.

I struggled through it but here’s the correct rating

I’ve only listened to one song from these guys, but based on that and their song names, I’ll just shit all over anything they do, so I don’t bother.
I salute you in this moment of my melodrama, Zak

Were there ever a band to rankle and really evoke the old personal ire about how shit everything’s become since the 2000s and how Rock N Roll for the most part has all gone down the shitter it’s these slags and them Brand New nobbers.
|
| |
Brand New are one of those bands where, as time goes on, I like less and less their material. Is this age or annoyance? I’m not sure anymore
