By the Way is low key their best album. And Stadium Arcadium is the shit.

Stadium Arcadium has a handful of duds but it doesn't even matter because Frusciante is just going ape shit the whole time

Yeah SA definitely has some floppers but also so many solid tracks. Title track is especially good.

for me BSSM/Californication/possibly even the really underrated OHM all beat BTW/Stadium. BTW and Stadium are both a bit bloated, condense them and maybe they'd be closer

ehh chad smith is actually a pretty fucking legit drummer, comparatively I wouldn't put him that all far below flea/frusciante. He comes up with some incredible lines, and also knows when to back off when it's appropriate. Has pretty decent chops as well. He isn't breaking out any blast beats but as a songwriting drummer he's as legit as anyone.

It's literally just kiedis who is the question mark of the group. Back in the day he did some good things but these days his schtick has kind of run its course (and this is not even delving into the pedo stuff, simply talking music) and it feels sometimes like in these newer albums his vocals are often just detracting from the music, when back in the day they went well with it.

By the Way is the best RHCP but I agree it could have cut a couple songs to make it a bit tighter. Don't really care for these guys at all anymore though. Past Stadium Arcadium basically doesn't exist for me and even then I pretty much never listen to them despite them being one of my favorite bands for a long time a decade ago.

Yeah, I'm basically the same. Some of their old stuff is great and always will be, but they've gone to a band I used to listen to a lot and was one of my favorites 15 years ago to now I basically don't give a f about their new releases. Such is life I guess.

On a side note, the people whining about Kiedis doing bad stuff when he was super young and on drugs and famous are pretty funny. If you like any bands that have made it big (or even a lot of the ones that haven't), chances are a lot of them have done similarly terrible things. That's literally the music/concerts/drugs/fame scene. I'm not saying what he did was ok, but at the same time, get off your high horse, you're listening to tons of other music which is likely made by people who have done as bad or worse.

if they condensed these 2 albums into 1, it really could have been one of their better offerings. And then a not bad b-sides with the rest.

Re-visiting this and it has held up super well. Better than Unlimited Love for sure. If only they had condensed the best tracks - could have been a classic

Unbelievable how many of you would rank By The Way as their best record. It's basically the start of the boring era of RHCP.



MM, BSSM, OHM, and Californication are all superior. Comparing apples to apples since the band went from funk rock to pop rock, there's no way Californication isn't more pleasant than BTW.
