That's kinda fair in the sense that it does feel very 2000s post-rock to the core, but it just comes together for me

Really digging everything is beautiful but us at the moment

The Pilgrim reminds me of Amorphis vocally. Really enjoyed album minus the intro.

"sceptical to see if this band has finally put out something above a 3"
Yeah I have to kind of agree. This band has been always overrated and overhyped for me. They are not bad by any means but I never got the hype they always get.

Struggling to find anything other than well-worn genre tropes in this, but yeah post-rock/metal cliches fits the bill for a lot of this

I wanted to since I've seen a whole lot of Sono's filmography, but the overall weak reception put me off from watching it. Not sure anything could convince me to watch at this point haha.

That Cage craziness should go hand in hand with Sono's stuff, too bad the film isn't even decent, according to basically everyone haha.
And yeah, Sono's in pretty deep shit now that he's found himself in a me-too scandal. Forest of Love was a bit underwhelming for me personally, as it seemed like a greatest-hits compilation of his previous works without adding anything of note. Kinda fitting lol, given that it's gonna be tough for him to ever get back on track.

i think i'm settled on a 3.5
i like it a lot but coming from the great escape's flawless pacing and ellengaest's raw emotional power, it had a lot to live up to and didn't quite reach the quality of those albums.

Can't wait to get to listen to this, the last 2 records were excellent.

I think I liked almost all of these songs individually but there are just too many of them

One hour 38 minutes.
Holy hell that’s nuts.

What the fuck I didn't expect them to go full black metal on the final track

Rose of Jerichos really cool. Also even if this ends up feeling overly long everything is flowing well and theres enough variation. Well still have half a record left so early days
Edit/update: This is really good but I think all of this has to be experienced as an album and listening to the tracks individually outside of it may dampen the experience. If that makes any sense.

Great review! It's definitely overlong but there's a ton of quality here.

Has a Solstafir / Kontinuum story telling vibe through out this. Liking it more and more.

strong, crazy epic album but just not quite Ellengaest level. but close enough for me, i dig it. so much to delve into.
The Pilgrim is a definite favorite, its like an ode to us northern folks. "the cold becomes part of your soul", thats damn right hehe.
also the bonus track No Regrets is fucking awesome, took me a moment to realize it's actually Jacob Bannon from Converge doing half the vocals (Belinda from CBP doing the rest). "blackened hardcore crust punk" or something then, i guess.
