Are we talking pure gaze? I thought you meant on relative terms (i.e Carnavas isn’t really that gazey in the grand scheme)
Anyway speaking of soft, We Won’t Come Out is uhhhhhh def the best thing here so far

Wow ok yeah I was hesitant on this one but well worth the listen. The opening three songs are all unreal but still consistent throughout

Enjoying this. Hereafter rules. I just feel like the begging of the album is a little shaky. The middle and later parts are great.

carnavas is the only sspu album I’d consider great so maybe that’s why I’m not getting on with this one

I think I might slightly prefer Swoon to Carnavas, but those are their peak for sure imo

This is my favorite band by far, imo these guys can no wrong. As of now I’m loving this as a whole more than Better Nature and Widows Weeds. However WW is very close. Swoon> Carnavas> NoTW> PT > WW> BN
All of their albums are great though , man they kill it every time!

I started listening to this a couple days ago and it wasn't doing much for me but either I'm in the right frame of mind now or the first few tracks are way worse than the rest of the album. I loved Scared Together, Hidden Moon and Empty Nest in particular

Most of this felt pretty flat to me on first listen.
Stillness (Way Beyond), Alone on a Hill and Quicksand were all pretty good, but it kind of all felt too stiff and muted
Possible I come around if I give it another listen or two.

Yeah, this has grown on me a bit since the first listen. Still one of the band's weaker efforts in my opinion, but this has been on steady rotation. The first stretch is easily the worst part of the album.

"Strange that you remarked upon the album's flatness and then cited Quicksand as a highlight."
I thought the melody was far more distinct then most any other track, I found the track emotionally poignant (by Silversun Pickup standards), and I liked the space within the arraignment, think it allows the other elements to pop more.
But, I sure do wish it built to a climax of some kind.
