Imagine 4'ing this mediocre "return to form" album from a band that's been well past their prime.

Also if not liking Doomsday Machine makes me delusional, then I don't want to be right.

4s = 19

2s = 11

Imagine 2'ing this awesome "certified hood classic" album from a band that's hardly got any of their founding members therefore can't possibly be past their prime.

It's almost like not everyone's going to like what you like.

I will admit "well past their prime" wasn't exactly what I wanted to go for, but it's certainly been a long while since I actually enjoyed this band, and it's a shame because everything from Black Earth to Burning Bridges is top notch. I want to like them again, don't get me wrong, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Ayooooo

But yeah, I probably wouldn't rule it out. For as much as Doomsday Machine has really grown off me, it was the first album of theirs I looked into years ago when I was first getting into melodeath, and I have an ounce of respect for it as a result. Then years later I went back to everything pre-Wages because I never actually looked into them and I definitely gelled with them more. Modern AE may just not be my thing anymore, and that's fine.

The news item says Loomis wasn't involved in the writing of the last two Arch Enemy albums….

The guitarist who wrote Nevermore's Politics of Ecstasy

Imagine having one of the best metal guitarists on the planet and not even making proper use of his talents. Such a shame

This is what Michael Amott said:

...But, you know, I've always written most of the music, so it's difficult to… I don't really wanna change the sound of the band too much. The band sort of started around my songwriting and my ideas, and those continue to be the most dominant ones, I guess.

If that isn't all ego (and publishing royalties, probably), I don't know what is. The last mindblowing album he was a part of was Heartwork.

The last great Arch Enemy album was released in the mid naughts.

And Spiritual Beggars released the awesome Earth Blues album 10 years ago.

So yeah…

Never heard Spiritual Beggars (I don't remember ever hearing them, anyway). To me, Arch Enemy have never been more than slightly above average. I think the only thing keeping them feeling remotely fresh is the new vocalists.
