Saw this band open for Bright Eyes and then later play with Conor Oberst solo. Will try to find the time to give this a listen. Awesome review!

I think I found something in common with nothingness and God:
You stare at either in the face too long, they’ll do each other’s job…

idk all these songs kinda fuckin majorly slap, at a few points it does kinda have the Fear of a Blank Planet thing of feeling like middleweight musing on society from heavyweight musicians but they've got a really great sound and god DAMN they can lay it down

Niiiiice one man, yeah this is a really great example of a really solid band playing to their strengths, as an older fan it’s so satisfying to hear after several mid records in a row but I’m glad it’s working so well for a new listener too!

Relistens takin a bit of shine off the last 10 mins here and I'm still deciding how much I mind "Ghost in the Machine"'s semi-blatant rip of the "one way out" riff BUT that opening trio knocks every note out of the park

Glad you're digging this, Kompys!
Curious what you don't particularly like about the last tune, that one might be my favorite here.

Hmm need more time to pin it to anything particular, may be a case of coming at the point where the album's MO is most established and me wanting more of a wow factor to set it apart from the rest/end the album in a more conclusive-feeling way?

Ah ok, I certainly get that. I think the lyrics are really the selling point on that track, I really like how they finish the album off.
