cooking healthy food is prob a big task for many ppl. cooking healthy food that tastes good can be an entirely different issue. i imagine its hard for ppl used to mcd level fast food flavors to transition to satisfying healthy meals even if they do possess the time, skill, and money to prepare them.

sugar is the big one for me. I fully believe we will treat processed sugar like we do tobacco and alcohol in the future. even as healthy as I try to be I still can’t fully break the sugar addiction. it’s crazy and it’s in EVERYTHING.

cokes and desserts can be a bitch

a lot of the negative effects of sugar can be mitigated with an active lifestyle though. i feel like trans fats are probably worse overall

I got some dried cranberries from Aldi of all places a few weeks ago and there was like 20g of added sugars per serving. In fucking FRUIT! ITS LITERALLY ALL SUGAR. WHY ARE YOU ADDING IT.

“Dawg have you ever tried to eat an unsweetened cranberry I assure you those 20g of sugar are there for your protection”
see, the thing is, all good nutrition in plants comes from secondary compounds. bitterness is actually an indicator that what you’re eating is full of all those good compounds, we’ve just been so over fed with sugars that we’ve lost touch with what actual nutritious foods should taste like.
I’ll post my literature review here when I’m done with it lmao.

“ the real issue at the heart of all of this is that the standard western diet is genuinely terrible for your health and nutrition in general.
in fact, im doing some undergraduate research with one of my professors right now on the negative repercussions of food production in western countries. our main argument is that most people in western countries eat calories, not nutrition. the majority of people in America are actually malnourished even though they are overweight. it’s fucking sad honestly”
This is legit, which is why fat shaming in the west (specifically America) can sometimes be tantamount to victim blaming. It’s a nuanced discussion and there has been an over correction by certain types to try and delude themselves that obesity is perfectly healthy and natural etc of course, but that’s a coping mechanism at the end of the day. You do have control over your health and weight usually, but we have a system that works against you. It’s not that different from many common mental health issues in the west in that way imo.

is it over already

yeah I gotta get back to deadlifts 😎

“the bigger issue is food deserts. there are countless places all over the United States where accessing fresh, whole foods is close to impossible. the entire infrastructure weve created for producing and distributing nutritious foods is fundamentally broken.
until we tackle that problem head on, I don’t think obesity rates will fall. which is why i do believe that obesity isn’t entirely a personal problem.”
Unfathomably based perspectives from hype itt
