"C/C suffers from the "modern music has the drums way louder than anything else in the mix""

oh no

Still moderately curious to check

I'm getting overly obvious modern Opeth vibes so far.

“Dignity is a gem.”

That’s the song that’s sticking with me. “Chimera’s Wreck” does nothing for too long for me to like it.

The riff ideas on Population are pure Opeth, agreed. Could've done without the basic chromatic walk aka 'every James Bond theme ever'. I really hate that shit. Walk The Plank kinda feels like a DK64 song on mushrooms.

Population is basically the Wedding Nails of C/C. Just a fun heavy rock/metal instrumental is how I see it. The other two bonus tracks are the real highlights.

Review nailed it, nice write up. I'm pleasantly surprised by this album. I went in without expectation, I've loved the band for years, and this is way better than expected. I thought I was going to have to convince myself to like it, but I just enjoy it all the way, great pacing, every song has something to look forward to. It also flies by if you don't count the bonus tracks. To echo everyone else, Dignity is one of their best tracks in their discography, it's the gem of the album. And anyone who thinks Deadwing isn't an amazing album is bonkers.

I’ve never been a huge fan of PT but this was a pleasant surprise. Some really strong tracks here and the production is fantastic, pure ear candy.

So I’ve been listening to Love in the Past Tense a lot

Bonus tracks should have been on the album. They could have made Walk the Plank and Of the New Day the bonus tracks

Third listen and this absolutely does nothing to my brain. It just zones out like if it were prog Muzak

Its a fun listen, it has just the right amount of SW without being too much.

Rats Return really grows on me!

Colton,

What should I compare this to thats more exciting?
