I'm enjoying this a lot but I'm gonna need a long time to properly digest it because of how long it is.

The thought of trying to sit through 24 songs is off-putting. Especially for a band as unproven as them.

I mean, they’ve got to prove/establish themselves somehow, right? The Smashing Pumpkins dropped Melon Collie on their third full length. Quite frankly, they’re playing at a higher level than Deftones, Thrice, and whatever other musical relatives they have right now.

This is surprisingly good after the first listen, especially since Ancient Geometry was a hit or miss for me.

Deftones core is really on full gear these last three years damn

3 songs in and this is amazingly good...
Hits every box, exactly what I was craving for, Thrice-Deftones

I’m going through this in multiple sittings but enjoying what I’ve heard so far

This one one of the best-produced albums I’ve heard in a while.

Glad to see you’ve sat on this for a month before reviewing 🤣
I jammed this three times yesterday and it’s way too much to rate yet
It’s clearly really good but I think it’s also full of ‘growers’
I think AG grew from a solid 3 on first listen to maybe a 4.5, this probably feels like a 4 so far but hoping it grows too!

I’m glad ya’ll are enjoying it so far. It’s hilarious because I am ready to talk about everyone’s favorite songs, but it’s just way too early for that.
Haha yeah, definitely took a month to process this. Only a few songs stood out during my first couple listens, but after more time certain riffs and vocal melodies began to stand out then everything started hitting like a ton of bricks.
Yazz, can you believe this was self-produced? Berezansky owns a studio they record at, I believe.

@Teal
That’s really cool, definitely shows in the amount of care but into the production. Seems like they were really able to execute exactly the sound they wanted.
The drum mixing in particular is fantastic imo. Absolutely love the kick and cymbal sound.

Yeah, I was reading another review (I think from New Noise Magazine) that really emphasized the clarity of the production. I love how clear the rhythm section is in particular, yet they can still make those massive full band wall of sound moments overwhelm you too.

Gather Your Bones is the early standout for me, brilliant track.
Haven't heard their debut but my only complaint with this is how evocative it is of Deftones/Periphery/Karnivool and the like. It's very well-done though so it doesn't really bother me, just would be curious to keep following these guys to see if they really find their own voice at some point.

I think this sounds more like they’re finding their own sound than their debut (where I wrote a review talking about their influences being a bit too on-their-sleeve), especially the vocal performance which is stellar and doesn’t sound like Dustin Kensrue trying to be Chino anymore

I’d agree. They’ve grown into their sound well. Even Berezansky and Klagholz’s old band VESSL sounded similar. I just think this sound is in their musical DNA for better or got worse depending on how you like it.

Stuff like this is usually right up my alley but something about the vocalist doesn't click with me. Can't get into him for some reason. Musically it's pretty good though.

i don't recall too much about the debut album aside from the ..apparent? Deftones worship but this is an impressive step up from Ancient Geometry and feels more individual. the deftones-y vibes are still there but some of this also reminds me of...thrice? mostly in the guitar interplay. the back half especially has some of my favorites here.
i hope this record won't be a hard sleeper and picks up traction for VEXES because they've worked their ass off and it shows.
