yeah, there are punk-adjacent moments all over this. listen to them beats

and it kinda slaps! checked it with low expectations to see what japanese-themed bm not made by Matt Heafy sounded like, but damn it turned out to be a blast. first three tracks in particular are exactly the kind of dumb fun i look for in black metal. the concept is (probably mercifully) unobtrusive, but still enough to make me want to go on a Nioh binge. great stuff, thanks for reviewing garas

“Black metal itself is an extreme form of punk, just saying.”

I am not quite sure I agree with this statement

Nah I don't agree either.

>Here is an example, listen to Queen of the Haunted Dell from around 1:09~ That's a really punkish section. The beats and the very simple riffs are totally punk.

But this totally made sense. Thanks garas.

What genre would you call the riff at 3:09? I get 80s thrash vibes.

Yessss @Egarran, that's a sweet thrash section. I'm no thrash expert tho', so I can't connect it to an influental band. (But right after it comes back the same punk theme.)

Also wow, I'm so happy you Johnny liked this one!!! Your comment made my day!

Hmmm, brave statement but I thin I totally get what you mean, boss Voivod. (Also this made me to listen to this again: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=SRGK7_nNl5Y)

appreciating the production q a lot - really like how every layer is distinctly audible despite none of it being close to polished or concertedly lofi. it doesn't play as an aesthetically driven album at all, and i rly enjoy that over solid tracks and performances as opposed to anything overproduced

black metal isn't punk, black metal is sometimes punk

also that thrash section is more metalcore than real thrash. big 00's metalcore riff.

I have excellent news for the world. There is no such thing as post-punk. It does not exist. It’s a figment of a lame cunt’s imagination. There was never any such thing as post-punk. It was the polite thing to say when you were trying to explain you were not into the boring old rock ‘n’ roll but you didn’t dare to say punk because you were afraid to get kicked out of the fucking party and they wouldn’t give you coke anymore. There’s new music, there’s new underground sound, there’s noise, there’s punk, there’s power pop, there’s ska, there’s rockabilly. But post-punk doesn’t mean shit.
