Yeah Dewi, I try not to make too big a deal of her identity when describing her to folks but Anhedonia's nature as a trans woman is definitely an important piece for understanding the Ethel Cain project.

Haven’t had a chance to do a lyrics listen yet but already want to five this. The one two closing punch of Sun Bleached Flies and Strangers is absurd. They also manage to make American Teenager, am already stellar pop song, even better by presenting the contrast in her songwriting skills. I’m just blown away by all of this

YES MATHIAS, that closing duo is insane. I also do love that she put "American Teenager" on this to show that range, that one is just a total pop banger to go on any summer playlist, a great follow-up to "Crush" from Inbred (which was my most listened song of 2021).

Was going to the wait for a more in-depth listen with the lyrics before actually rating this but then that screamed “stop” Ptolemaea happened and immediately came here to slap that five on

Yup, that moment is chilling. I really love how the heaviness of that track is elevated by the relative softness elsewhere. Would be genuinely surprised if there are any other albums out there that can pull of both something like that and "American Teenager" so convincingly.

had to break my sputnik silence to say that this is the most floored ive been by an album on first listen in a long ass time
that callback to a house in nebraska at the end of sun bleached flies damn near brought a tear to my eye

I hate the cliche of Trans creators/musicians being these creatures molded and shaped by trauma/pain, but I doubt anyone could write music this poignant any other way, she is absolutely on top of her game with this lovely album indeed

Yeah exactly, when it's not particularly relevant to the art itself or to the artist's presentation of themselves I hesitate more.
