Great review, I'm a gizz casual through and through but if this is a step forward for them I'm officially interested

This album is chillin af man, best jam session I've heard in a long time. This could grow on me a lot.

Edit: Actually it's already a 4,5 for me. Album rules pretty hard omg.

Edit 2: Man this album is starting to give me classic vibes. It's growing so much with each listen I'm starting to consider a 5. The retro tinges, the psych groove, the hip-hop interludes (and I don't even like hip-hop), the metal elements reminiscent of Elder's. This is so freaking good. It's the perfect amalgam of experimentation with all the elements involved. This has been my entry to this band so I'm afraid of going back through their immense catalog... Which are their other best works?

The metal bits are awfully dull and serve no real purpose apart from to further push this towards needless eclecticism, let’s be real here

These guys are a silly band (and some people like / admit that, which is fine).

I like Gaia, predator X isn't as good but the breakdown in the middle is fun. The rest of the album is fantastic. Dripping tap goes on a bit long, but whatevs

Yeah they’ve reached the point where recklessly switching sounds between tracks works in their favor

“Gaia” is fucking sick, “Predator X” is a blatant rehash of material from “Infest the Rat’s Nest”, it’s literally almost identical to one of the songs off that record (I’m too lazy to check which), which is pretty disappointing.

Overall the songs on here are stronger on average compared to the other releases of theirs I’ve heard, but cohesive or consistent this isn’t. Still fun though.

I expect them to probably having a more cohesive theme on their records, but it's fun when they do these sort of "instant playlist" albums like this and Gumboot. Just let the record play and there's a whole smattering of vibes.

With a band that has as high of an output as King Gizz, a retread like Predator X is fine to me as long as it isn't a total misfire

Which album of theirs sticks to a more constant stylistic formula? I could definitely deal with a psych / stoner rock sort of vibe throughout. Could do without the hip-hop / metal or whatever else they wanna throw in there.

Pretty much all of them lol

I am not a Gizz expert by any means, but every album by them except Infest the Rat's Nest, which is explicitly their Thrash album, is a much more psychedelic/stoner experience.

Their album last year, Butterfly 3000, is one of my favorites as it plays with a lot of loops and motifs. Fishing for Fishies incorporates a lot more bluegrass and folk and is probably my favorite record of theirs. Sketches of Brunswick East is a little more jazzy. Polygonwanland and Microtonal Banana might be better representations of most of their sound.

Their discography is so vast that you're bound to find something you like.

Cheers Odal, that’s really comprehensive 👍

It looks like I’ve only heard their potentially least (for me) palatable material then, because the Rat’s Nest was horrible… really not a fan of their metal side.

I think Rat's Nest is a fun little deviation from them, but yeah I'm not wild about it lol

Hope you connect with some of their stuff because there's a lot to love. Cheers dude!

I thoughts rat's nest was cool. The songs and bands that influenced it are pretty obvious and the story behind it is cool. I like how they always do weird shit with time signatures and polyrhythms to keep an otherwise stale sound sounding interest.

Rat's Nest is definitely cool, and I love that they made it a climate change themed thrash concept album lol I just think it's something for already established fans. I wouldn't tell someone trying to get into Gizz to listen to it right away
