You feel the same about Armand Hammer?

Yeah I kinda do, like all his stuff is undeniably good and very unique but it just hasn’t fully resonated with my on an emotional level yet, I’m not sure what it is
There’s nothing I actively dislike about it either, it just hasn’t clicked.

Tbf I can't identify in any emotional way with this either, it doesn't resonate at that level for me. It's too elusive, everytime I think I'm beginning to grasp what's going on it slips out of my grasp again. But it's that feeling on not quite getting it that I find enjoyable, in and of itself. Means I admire and am in awe of this record, rather than adoring it in the intimate way I love other records that I can actually understand.

Don't think this is meant to generate a strong emotional response in the first place, I guess. It's more abstract, left brain stuff

Agreed.
Feels weird to talk about music again. Anyone wanna pasta-debate with me instead? *wink*

There's no denying that billy is a talented artist, but I can see his projects being hit or miss. Haram was fine where as I thought Shrines was fantastic. Hiding Places and BRASS were incredible where as Terror Management was decent. The quality of his rhymes doesn't diminish but I think the beats make or break his music a lot for me.

Which is valid in its own right, however not really what I gravitate towards hip-hop for. I like to vibe.
I’m listening to this rn btw, same feelings, it’s undeniably good, but also not… enjoyable

Tbf I can't identify in any emotional way with gnocchi either, it doesn't resonate at that level for me. It's too elusive, everytime I think I'm beginning to grasp it on my fork it slips out of my fork again. But it's that feeling on not quite eating it that I find enjoyable, in and of itself. Means I admire and am in awe of gnocchi, rather than adoring it in the intimate way I love other pastas that I can actually understand.

Feelings aside I’ve always rated Billy optimistically, but now that it’s out in the open that I don’t really vibe with him that much I’m gonna go ahead admit that I will probably never listen to or think about this album ever again and will forget about it as soon as it finishes

This has been my least fav Billy Woods album but it might just be part of the exhaustion. The combination of being so prolific yet so monotonous (I don’t mean this as a diss, I think the monotony is intentional and serves as to amplify the bleakness of his records - it’s just a part of his aesthetic, right down to his talk-rap style) is draining. I think I’d appreciate his material better in smaller doses, instead of having what feels like an album every year (taking into account his other projects and collabs)

This is my first Billy, perhaps why I dig it so much. All the ideas are fresh to my ears.
