*somewhere in the faint distance, Marti Pellow can be heard serenading...

I've been waiting for this moment, Neekafat. Take me.

Awwww :-)

Will be interesting to hear how these songs transition to a live set.

"Buddy's Rendezvous" is great.

Not feeling it, either. Generally like his music.

I blame everyone who had a single complaint about Pure Comedy for this. This is just bad. One and a half okay songs and a few good orchestral parts. Even the lyrics aren't interesting.

Not saying this is anywhere near as enjoyable, but I think this is a really relaxing album to just vibe too in similar ways to the new Big Thief. Definitely not as good as his last few albums, but I am glad he put out this little experiment

You basically described it as elevator music and sadly that is a perfect description

I would like to apologize for my earlier takes, turns out I love this album and find myself listening to it in full often. Can’t place my finger on why because I still think it’s boring but it’s just so pleasant all the way through

"It's boring but in the most exquisite of ways" --David Le'aupepe, 2017

Agreed though, album is tame but gorgeous. I actually really like it a lot.

It was starting to grow on me then fell out of rotation due to more engaging stuff… The discourse really died off fast which didn’t ILYH and Pure Comedy felt like Significant Events whether you dug them or not; this not so much, I’m fairly sure it would reward more time spent with it, but it doesn’t demand it. Maybe just not the right time and place for me though.

The closer is definitely the only one I will individually revisit but the whole thing is perfect for background music on stuff like flights

The closer gets points for sounding like it’s actually trying to Say Something but idk how much I “like” it. “Goodbye Mr. Blue” and “Buddy’s Rendezvous” are probably the best pieces of songwriting here.

‘why no love’

It definitely scores zero for originality

Probably one of two songs I think are average rather than actively bad - plus there’s the closer which I think is good but not great

So I’d agree it’s top three
