I mean, calling Kaputt a one-off overlooks the fact that he had more than a decade of work before that with at least two albums that achieved similar acclaim. Later stuff hasn’t stacked up to Kaputt but has still been mostly very good and this is the best of em.

true, i do like rubies. outside of those two, not much. i just meant kaputt is a one-off in that it's his one album that transcends all others. like, it really overshadows everything else.

Kaputt is the best by a distance but then if you rearranged ten songs of a similar style from his other releases onto one album it could easily end up stronger than Kaputt

I can get that if someone doesn’t really get into his style then maybe all someone needs is Kaputt

I think 'Streethawk: A Seduction' is really overlooked. Probably my second fave after Kaputt.

this has great moments but the longer 5+ minute tracks drag on a bit long for me to fully enjoy

The opener alone is better than the last 3 beach house albums

Hm that is maybe an acceptable opinion (took me a moment to realize that doesn’t count Depression Cherry)

I love a lot of Destroyer's records. Streethawk, Rubies, Poison Season, Thief, and Kaputt are standouts for me.

As for post-Kaputt albums, I'm surprised Poison Season doesn't get more love. That's an excellent record.

I've still yet to give this record more than one spin but it was a good spin. I liked it.

I definitely liked it more than Ken on first listen. Seemed like a nice evolution on Have We Met.

The only song I recall really admiring from Ken was 'Sky's Grey'. Probably because it sounded like a Poison Season song, like 'Girl in a Sling'.

I think it has bits and pieces from past Deatroyer efforts. Some of the production of Have We Met, the swagger of Poison Season or Rubies, and some of slick melancholy of Kaputt.

Def giving me Kaputt mixed with Rubies and I love it

Did not expect this to be so good based on the reception, but idk wtf people are listening to

Yeah man, that's how I feel about Poison Season. People seem to really overlook that record, in my opinion

I mean, the reception when it released was very warm but people seem to have forgotten about it.

Dan Bejar and crew still know their way around a great song.

I spun it a lot. 'Sun in the Sky' is still one of my favourite Destroyer songs.

This is a really good record and is holding up nicely, but I do prefer Ken and Poison Season among the post-Kaputt output. I seem alone in my love of Ken (favorite Destroyer), but it was my first Destroyer album so maybe that explains it.

I think it speaks to their strengths in always delivering something different that attracts various listeners and interests.

Ken may not be one of my favourites, and I much prefer Poison Season, but those records are distinct from one another. They have different aims.

'Ken' is solid, it eventually got a (slightly) higher rating than 'Have We Met' from me on my AOTY account

At the moment I have:

1st - 'Kaputt' 100% [2nd favourite album of all time so 'nuff said]

2nd - 'Labyrinthitis' 95% [I feel this will probably fall by the end of the year but will likely just hold onto second spot, it is the most similar to 'Kaputt' that's for sure]

3rd - 'Poison Season' 88% [this has bumped around a bit, but I was obsessed when this came out]

4th - Streethawk 86% [Bowie, Bowie, Bowie...but arguably the best bit of Bowie worship ever, and it has that Bejar thing going for it too]

5th - 'Ken' 86% [something appealing and accessible about it for me at least, one of his best album openers]

6th - 'Have We Met' 85% [more atmospheric and understated for Bejar, some of it is just a little less interesting]

7th - 'Rubies' 84% [Side A is 100%...but side B is not at the same level for me, I really want to like it as much....]

8th - 'Your Blues' 78% [some great tracks but also some lesser stuff, one of his best album closers]

9th - 'This Night' 76% [the underrated one]

10th - 'Trouble in Dreams' 74% [a few stunners but a bit more filler and borderline failed experimentation going down here]

Not going to rate the rest as I don't know it well enough really
