Wow, I'm surprised that you liked the last track. This was the point where I realised how disappointed I am with this album. It sums up the whole thing perfectly. A long passage, a long wait for something to happen, to strike me, to at least... begin...? And then it ends. What a shame. This is stagnation. At a high level, but stagnation nonetheless.

Maybe give it time to settle, it is a pretty solid grower.

Really digging Windmane, not many peeps talkin' about that one
Good album, but indeed sounds a lot like Queen of Time. Not necessarily a bad thing.
I should jam Red Cloud one of these days

Yeah i reckon windmane is my favourite as its a little different.
If you already had made your own best of list for amorphis and now was time to add songs from the Halo album to that best of list, Windmane would be my first choice off it as it would add more variation than some of the others i feel.
I really rate the wolf too, i think it has one of the better chorus's and one of the better mid sections, where the tempo slows down and it gets moodier.
My main problem with Halo - is that its the first time (that i've personally felt aware of anyway) where i feel amorphis just went through the motions somewhat with this one.
Comfortable to just churn out songs they know they do well, they aren't an up and coming young band that need to do something to stand out, they can just do what they do well, do more of the same and know it will please their fan base, and luckily they do it so well that it turns out a solid album in its own right, its completely fair enough - but they don't strike me as a band anymore that are hungry.
More a band that have eaten and have satisfied their hunger, but will have another meal why not.
You know, i feel they would of got together write and record this one with a sort of attitude of 'ok boys, lets do this, lets get the next one down' instead of really thinking about what they should or could do next, what direction to go in, should they consider a drastic change, do they need to consider such a change etc.
I feel like younger hungrier bands trying to really establish themselves would, but amorphis on this one have just sort of gone through the motions.
Having said that, its not like they need to prove themselves to anyone, and if anyone was entitled to just rest on the laurels and do what they do well - its them! So its not really a criticism as it is an observation.
That maybe if they were younger and still trying to establish themselves, maybe they wouldn't be content making an album that sort of just sounds like more of the same.

You got a point cage, but it's like you said, they have an impressive catalogue, one that they can't erase, but I guess they still gotta put food on the table, and besides that, the pandemic has pushed many bands to cancel touring and enter the studio instead, even if they didn't really need to or they'd be doing better spacing out releases and taking more time to write songs, they probably needed a source of income for the new year, so a new album was probably the only option.

The album still fvcks though

I just think windmane captures some mood and atmosphere
It’s not as catchy or as heavy
Simply don’t understand the lack of love for the wolf but there you go
For me Halo > queen of time

Doesn't it sound like he's slightly off-key in My Name Is ...NiIiGhT?

Yes, it does. Technically I don't know if he's out of key, but in fact the short crescendo sounds a bit eccentric. I love its smoothness though.

My thoughts exactly, probably they put it to have a contrast with the second half of the chorus where he sings it 'right'. But still I don't like this part.
