album is beautiful. I didn't love preser john as a single but it works so much better in context. surprised people are hating passerby so much. strung with everything is probably my favorite and one of the most important songs i've heard in a longggg time

I guess…

1. Strawb

2. Feels

3. MPP

4. Sung Tongs

5. This

6. Centipede

7. HCTI

8. Spirit

9. Campfire

10. Painting

11. Manatee

Be interesting to put the side protects in there - think the two most recent Avey T albums would make a top 7 (I quite like Down There as well), Person pitch would make a top 10, the Deakin was alright too

If you included EPs then FBK would be top 5 and Water Curses would rank quite high too

I like the ‘most recognised as AnCo sounding’ albums best rather than outliers like Spirit or HCTI etc

Switching to Strawberry Jam after listening to the opener on this puts things in perspective…Peacebone alone bosses every song here and that’s only my fourth or fifth favourite on SJ

Think this is locked on a 3.5

Interesting listening to SJ now - definitely captures that ‘remembering your own childhood/imagining what childhood will be like for your own kids’ thing.

Always has been my favourite AnCo because it sticks to the theme and has stuff to say. More recent albums like this one not quite so much, more just a ‘tune in to the music and don’t look to hard for any meaning beyond that’ deal.

i think the message of strawberry jam is more along the lines of childhood shouldn't be the only time for careless fun

In places I can hear that - tracks like Cuckoo Cuckoo and #1 bring out the ol freaky deaky too much for me to think there’s not a darkness or unsettled element to the lyrics

Purely musically then maybe MPP, Feels and FBK could be stronger than SJ - but the way the lyrics and moods elevate things on SJ put it top, and I like that no idea seems to outstay it’s welcome on that one
