Idk what happened, but now I like this more than PTES. That one is (charming) amateur hour compared to this monster. Lots of quirky cool af moments here that I barely even remember also, weird

Hell yeah, totally agree. The one song I’d kick off this is ten cents because it kills the flow of the record completely before some absolute HEATERS at the end

That’s what I’ve been SAYING for forever man!!!
I’ve always thought it was super weird that people will put Petitioning in their top Converge albums but just completely forget about this. Petitioning is technically just a compilation anyway

Damn that double post. Petitioning has some absolutely essential converge songs (the saddest day, forsaken, color me blood red, etc etc) but as far as the stolen slayer riff chaotic metalcore era of Converge goes, WFCC and the split with Agoraphobic Nosebleed reign supreme.

I know Space, I know. Sorry for doubting the facts. I am reformed
'Petitioning is technically just a compilation anyway'
yeah and I'm not sure why a very obvious sounding compilation never felt as such growing up, haha. This feels a lot more cohesive / focused. I guess at that point I'd basically heard absolutely nothing like it, whereas now if feels like a hodgepodge of styles I have experience of (of course in some cases, I'm talking about bands who were no doubt influenced by Converge, so it seems harsh to hold this against PTES, but still).
I still enjoy PTES, just doesn't feel quite as essential now. I imagine The Saddest Day will always be a jam.

ptes benefits greatly from the saddest day making up 1/4 of its runtime. their best song followed by 20 minutes of mostly shorter barn burners that don't overstay their welcome
the material on this album is better on average but ptes is just a much more neatly constructed album so i can def see how some would prefer it over this

Well yeah, I prefered it for 15 years or whatever… so I can easily understand that 😄
Just having an epiphany over here, don’t mind me

The Conduit / Denominator combo is so creative, has to be a discog highlight

The High Cost of Playing God is such a great song on here. Underrated in their discog for sure.
