rabid, that may be true, but it's an icky line, let's get real

The amount of disrespect-by-omission for 'Blast Off' in this thread is troubling and disheartening

It's fun, but the balladry gets a little worn after a while.

Thinking about the dude that said this was an unremarkable disco record and wondering what he thinks disco is

This is quality even though this sound has been run to the ground over the years. I feel like this is top tier for the genre recently based on a couple listens.

Sometimes music can be unoriginal but just be really good anyway

Yeah, there's something to be said about tapping into a genre and just pulling it off very well.

Originality is a plus but not a necessity for me. What's important is that you execute the concept well regardless of it been done before or not

It's a fun record to me, anyway. I'm not sure I'd say it's up there with someone like Raphael Saadiq as far as contemporary soul go but this is definitely very enjoyable.
This album puts a big smile on my face.

I'm not sure what aspects of 'Smokin' Out The Window' you're looking for but try out Marvin Gaye's 70's music. (https://youtu.be/1aNMq-tOtYg) or Stevie Wonder's output during that era too. (https://youtu.be/se0g2f5Ub0A)

Those Bootsy Collins voiceovers are cringe as hell. I know it's tongue in cheek and all that but still

as cool as this may be are we really comparing it to the behemoth that is What's Goin' On?

"can anyone drop some songs that sound like Smokin Out The Window"
Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience honestly isn't far off

I get what Colton is saying. Obviously Silk Sonic owe a lot to 70's R&B and soul but their delivery is louder and more abrasive (I suppose that comes with contemporary mastering). Marvin Gaye's music is more discreet.
Again, not sure exactly what sort of itch you're looking to scratch. Maybe something like Raphael Saadiq (https://youtu.be/xuCpet4UKE8) (https://youtu.be/QOrZgRJ88kc)

Originality isn't everything but this reminds me of that Childish Gambino album from a couple years back where the utility is limited because I'd just rather listen to the stuff the album is doing a pastiche of

It’s nostalgia inspired modern pop music. Idk how you could compare it to something like Marvin Gaye or Al Green. It’s trying to modernize that style through a pop lens, not recreate it.
