it’s a different approach so idk if you could compare since the other one comes from more of a rock direction than this

Idk what it is, but the constant sound of fingers sliding on an acoustic guitar rly grates on me. I know a lot of people love this but I always find it extremely distracting

artists micing their fretboards for added intimacy is actually musically dull and unadventurous because creaking isn't music: thanx MusicRadar!
(uh yes sounds great and fits perfectly here mmhm)

My least favourite from her so far. Feels bare-bones to a fault, or so is my current impression. Still enjoyable. Could see it growing on me, as her stuff usually does.

I said crack noises but I meant the fret noises when the chords go up and down yeah. Especially if there are no other instruments on the forefront otherwise they become too dustracting.
"the way 'dancing man's chorus is basically emma breathing out right next to ur ear "
This. She has taken a different approach this time, almost whispering, relying on airy falsettos at times, and I think it works well with her voice.

Lol the whole "makes it more intimate" angle always seems like bs to me. How does it feel more intimate to have the beautiful guitar playing constantly interrupted by the loud sound of sliding up and down the neck of the guitar. It never ever sounds different from musician to musician, it's not like it's some cool aesthetic choice, it's just always intrusive and for some reason extremely loud in the mix. Same thing with mars volta - televators: gorgeous bridge absolutely ruined by the "intimate" sound of fingers sliding along guitar strings.

what are your thoughts on lofi production, vocalists that try to push outside their technical limitations, that fart you can hear on that beatles song, imperfect field recordings, etcetcetc?
the sloppiness is a vibe, fren

Idk, the string thing is just kind of high pitched and rly seems at war with the melody all the time, I've never heard a single instance of it sounding good, certainly not comparable to lofi vocals or production which are still unique sounding and atmospheric. I guess you could argue it's also atmospheric but it only ever sounds the same to me and it's oftentimes louder than the actual notes being played

I don´t now where this classic score comes from, I don't hear anything more than lazy songwritting dressed as "emotional songs with naked instrumentation". Super boring and that comes from a fan of hers.
|
| |
I explained it on the first page, but yeah, I understand some people won't see it that way.
|
| |
I wouldn't refer to this as "lazy songwriting" though. There's an intention and probably also a consequence of her losing her former backband, namely Jaye Jayle, after her divorce with Evan Patterson, who is singer/guitarist of that band.

Yeah this loses some dynamics but it’s by no means sterile from a songwriting perspective. Emma kills it every fucking time out.
Speaking of killing it every time, incredible review, Dewi
