This thread got off the rails. I hope they don't ever go shoegaze. I want them to stay true to their sound but find that inspiration they had to write more epic and atmospheric songs like on Futures, SOMST, Clarity, Static and 1998 EP

Or you know, progress musically as a band

The thread went off the rails by speculating about the future's sound for this band? Pretty on subject actually. Not sure how the thread could be any more on the rails. Sounds like you want to complain about nothing.
(It just really gets on my nerves when people come in a thread acting like it's a complete shit storm with nothing to offer themselves, and that annoyance is amplified by the fact that the thread was actually having a decent conversation about the band)

As long as they release an album better than Damage. Idc if it's fucking death metal, just as long as it's better.

i was more being tongue in cheek by emphasising how far out of jimmy eat worlds wheelhouse -- and how far from what i want from the band -- the genre of shoegaze is, by using the common "off the rails" remark usually used in threads that have gone completely outlandish.
my point is that jimmy eat world playing shoegaze seems, to me, outlandish.
then again i do take the point that lean has some slight "wash of guitar" tendancies, and gotta be somebodys blues does have shoegazish vocals. but i think i like the punchy and polished sound of jimmy eat world too much to want them to go in the direction of shoegaze.

i just want more music. like in quantity. i like how invented was so long even if i only dug 3/4 of the songs, i like having that much to sort through and process. release a shorter album and a companion ep, idgaf. just wanna dig into some tunes, man

Nothing average on here honestly. Work and Kill don't hold up as well anymore but everything else is amazing.
