depends if peak creativity aligns with quality, as something 'creative' doesn't always produce the best end results
I heard this first, so despite the fact it was released later than most of their other releases, I cannot disregard that context. To me this is the original Death album, its how I discovered them and that moment changed my life forever. Is that a fair basis for music critique? Of course not, but then I'm not a critic, lol.
It's also just a massive jam and sometimes that's all I need (putting all the pretension aside for one minute), there aren't many albums that satisfy my cravings for impressive technical chops that are simultaneously stupid catchy / fun. It is the rarest of treasures in that regard.

this was also one of my first death albums
in contrast however i kept thinking to myself 'everyone says this is good so how can i not be enjoying it' so i forced myself to 'like' it bc it "had" to be good
eventually i realized holy shit i dont have to like everything everyone says is good and have hated prog ever since
was also very confused from everyone calling this dm bc i was like wtf it sounds nothing like scream or lep and doesnt seem very deathy at all
