Ye, I get it. It's not exactly something you can put on in front of anybody, for starters. I think it's because it's so indebted to hip-hop, yet so much its own thing. As in, there are many obvious reference points and artists doing similar things, yet none of them sound quite like this. A logical stride to the side for the genre at large, if ye allow

Yeah definitely! I don't listen to a ton of rap so something this weird is gonna take a few listens to sink in but this is easily in my top 5 of the year. Love especially how they incorporate guitars into the music without making it straight up rap rock

This album is wild! Really digging it. Ashamed I didn't discover these guys sooner tbh right up my alley. If anyone has any recommendations of similar projects let me know. Need to dive deeper into experimental hip hop in general

Peep the new Jpegmafia LP.

Also listen to Kenny Mason's Supercut album. Not as wildly experimental as this but it still has some really cool unique production and the kid can rap his ass off.

way better than the first album. i don't think there is any mood i can experience where i would actually feel a desire to listen to this though. i also really don't understand what's so experimental about it, but i guess anything that defies verse chorus verse chorus is considered experimental these days. lyrics pretty cringe but they're pretty easy to ignore

>i also really don't understand what's so experimental about it, but i guess anything that defies verse chorus verse chorus is considered experimental these days

hmmmm i reckon this is a compliment when you take into account how few albums actually sound similar to this. the point isn't that it's excessively weird or anything, it's just that it's refreshing

"I also really don't understand what's so experimental about it"

rhythmically and production-wise, for one. a lot of these tracks flow like sound experiments to the point where they're hardly classifiable as hip-hop, and the variety of song structure and glitchy textures makes for a pretty unique and genre-defying listen

"lyrics pretty cringe"

they're one of the best things on here wtf. some of the most cathartic shit this year

"I don't think I'll grow no more

I don't think it'll snow no more

Don't feel it in my bones no more

I ain't too cool for, oh, no more

I ain't up to speed like that

I been out the loop for sure

Hold up, shit, I'll be right back

Instructions in the trash for sure

Yeah

"Can you hear me now?

Is this thing on?

5G

They puttin' towers up everywhere (Is this thing on?)

Can you hear me now? (Wild, wild, willy)

5G, high speed

It's the wild, wild, west out here

Gotta stay on your Ps and Qs

(Don't call him Billy or he gon smack you silly)

High speed

It's the wild, wild west out here, yeah

It's ya boy, Willie Smiff

(I've got fifty thousand watts of power)

Got to stay on your Ps and Qs (yeah)

[Verse 1: Ritchie with a T & Stepa J. Groggs]

It's the wild, wild west out here

I'm Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget

I'm on that 5G, one click and let 'em–

One click can let 'em have it

High speed, soaring

I'm Norrin Radd with the intergalactic

Get baggagе, back start to spazzing

Have it

It's Willie Smiff (Willie, tеll 'em again)

It's the wild, wild, west

I'm Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget

Got the 5G

We puttin' towers up everywhere (5G, high speed)

The triple shot is hell of a hat trick

With the intergalactic (5G, high speed)

The triple, triple shot is hell of a hat trick

Before you see the end there ain't no freebies

It's Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget

It's Willie Smiff with the inspector gadget

Yeah, I'm Norrin Radd with the intergalactic

I'm on that 5G, one click can let 'em

High speed, triple shots, hell of a hat trick

My whip got the horses movin'

Or what are you doing? AI cyber truck will run em through em

The tonka same color as Willy Wonka's movement

Gobstopper, the crime stopper

5G will smoke your Cuban

Ah, you ruthless, imma opportunist

Oh, it's awkward too

When you step in an office that's a coffin too

In light speed, to infinity and beyond, we movin'

I'm beyond you humans"

idk i think all the lyrics are fucking stupid

>posts lyrics for the album's weakest song

"I look across the table, I see a lot more than what appears to be a shadow

He walks across the room, I see a lot more than seems to be patterns

I scan the room, I see bits and pieces of you scattered

It's those same patterns that gon' get us through the next chapter

You blow up through this home, and your habits do much after

Grab the remote, pops up something you would've watched, I'm like

"Classic, this some shit I would'a seen you watch and then just laughed at"

Your patterns are still in place and your algorithm is still in action

yeah, just workin' so that you can just, jump right back in

But you ain't jumpin' back

Yeah, just run it back"

Outside, Footwork in a Forest Fire, and Knees too. it's pretty potent, the rest is just scattered bits of topical troubles that still fit the music's atmosphere quite well

I posted lyrics from two songs, one of which is the second highest rated on RYM

I had more pasted from different songs, but the comment was too long

I know, you posted a meh 20 seconds in an otherwise very strong song (Knees). then used Wild Wild West, the dullest track on this

you're just being pedantic and not even trying to argue against what I'm saying so I don't think this discussion is going anywhere. album rules lyrics rule slaps ahrd

If a couple of the most abrasive cuts here were removed this would be a 5 for me, also reminds me a lot of Joy Division's Closer which is one of my favourites
