Right on the divide between a 4 and 4.5 this one

the 'literally...memes...' bit on 'Silverfish always makes me think FJM
it's another 'just longer than a segue' lyric driven track...but overshadowed a lot by 'Be at Rest' for me
might be being a bit unfair on it

7 through 10 are pretty close for me, Silverfish's ranking might be a bit harsh but definitely bottom half for me at the moment

A pika 2.5 literally just arrived.

pika makes me suffer the way my ratings make most 'sputnik chart' metalcore/pop punk/etc loving users suffer

Album Rating: 4.5
Ugh I should go 2.5 more pop punk albums but in the end I’d rather not suffer

Speaking of Dylan worship…who rates this higher than any Bright Eyes?
This album will get 1% of the attention of ‘I’m Wide Awake’, just unfortunate timing + less gimmicks (youth/looking the part and that Oberst wibbly voice)

I like the cover therefore I shall jam. Haven't really checked any new releases this year that aren't abrasive also and should probably change that tbh

Doof@ Tough one. Right now I rate this just below I’m Wide Awake and Cassadaga. I don’t think this will grow to be a 5 on account of some tracks here that are in the hard 3.5 and soft 4.0 category, but who knows… There is of course more to an album rating than the individual track ratings. Sometimes it’s also just a gut feeling, I guess.

Jazz on the Autobahn is probably my least fav here tbh. Feels like a kids song half the time

I don't get that at all. It's a fun song for sure, but there are no childish vibes that I'm able to detect.
That said #8-11 is pretty interchangeable in my ranking. Just listened to Land of Yesterdays and realized there's no way in hell it would be 11th. A big part of the problem is that almost every song rules so it's impossible to rank.
Also regarding the Bright Eyes comparison, that's a tough one. I generally like this album's style/approach better than that of most BE albums, and I'd already place this on the same plane as I'm Wide Awake, so I could see this eventually topping it. That said I'm a comparatively fairweather Oberst fan and only truly love that record and Weeds, so I wouldn't expect my favoring of this record to be the consensus, especially considering the massive following that Bright Eyes has.

It’s growing on me tbf, but the “oooo oo-ooo-oooo” isn’t sitting well with me lol

lol, that's such a small thing and I was actually just thinking about how good the backing vocals are throughout this album. Best example would be Money Talks and Inferno probably, those songs knock it out of the park melodically.

I liked Bright Eyes but never fell for them hook line and sinker - I'm comfortable saying I prefer this to 'I'm Wide Awake' (still my top rated Bright Eyes)
There's a bit of overlap there anyway (obviously), was just wondering if anyone would regard the assertion as blasphemy

first run through this and silverfish and all the way down fucked the most, found the middle a bit dawdly but it’s a strong release this one
