Goat is a tasty rec, definitely has a little of this flava but is a lot more immediate/accessible. Albini's bands are always a good starting point as well.

The Birthday Party works also.

Awesome review, and glad to be of service as the editor :-) Sorry for just now getting to this, I took a few weeks off the site (with the exception of a comment or two)

One of the most idiosyncratic bands ever.

I'm starting to get there...

@WatchItExplode Yeah, it might take several listens, but this band totally worths it. Eugene Robinson is a force of nature.

I started grinning with the insane vocals instead of trying to figure out what I'm hearing

You can listen to Fuckfest and King Of The Jews if you want something more "straightforward", great albums nevertheless.

Oxbow's best album.

^ (2) yeah
An Evil Heat definitely runs it close, but this one is underrated in the context of Oxbow’s discog. In retrospect it was such a significant part of their evolution.

Definitely, it is quintessential Oxbow. An Evil Heat is also one of their best albums; Shine (Glimmer) is fucking crazy.

possibly the greatest ‘rock’ band that ever was, seriously
(potential 5 / An Evil Heat too)

Am I crazy to think I prefer this to An Evil Heat? I feel like such a weirdo these days. I prefer frequently another album to the supposed best/classic album of a particular band

It’s not unreasonable. This is firmly my second fave and I was so inspired that I cobbled together a rare review. It’s a special album.
…An Evil Heat has a different vibe even if it contains many similar elements. Both are essential.

@MunsuLight Not at all. This is probably their best album.

It just feel like it is the more consistent of their album.
Both are super enjoyable album

this maybe is their most consistent (and definitely their second best), but that's only because it and An Evil Heat have the same baseline of quality, but An Evil Heat has higher highs

I agree An Evil Heat has higher highs, but not by much. I'm happy I finally got to listen to the band though. Is there any band similar to that album in particular ?
