None of the songs overstay their welcome. It's actually a really solid listen as a complete album imo. Cartwheel is one that really grew on me though.

Cartwheel is pretty easily the best song here imo.

I still don't really like Hot & Heavy or Thumbs and there's some weird production in the first half that doesn't quite sit for me (except for First Time which again rips)

Going Going Gone onwards is all hits imo

Can’t wrap my head around you not liking Hot & Heavy. That track is fucking perfect my man. I could listen to it on repeat

Also yeah Cartwheel is magical, something special about the guitar playing on that one

Better than her last album, but that's not saying much. In no way will she ever be bigger than Julien Baker or Phoebe... Idk where that's coming from

Phoebe for sure, but Dacus’s Spotify stats disagree with her not being as big as Julien Baker.

idk my interest in Phoebe has faded a bit over time while my love for Dacus has only continued to grow.. don't think it's an unrealistic statement. and Julien Baker is pretty overrated honestly. the lyrics are a bit too "I'm emo and depressed" for those two after a while, lol

Julien carries boygenius almost single-handed lol y'all wild

I can def see Lucy being more interesting than Phoebe though, the fact that Lucy has more than one song format and lyrical style helps a lot there

"I guess I would say she’s a good storyteller but not a super remarkable lyricist."

Y'all wild she is the best lyricist of the three

Night Shift? Yeah none of the other two have a song like that.

lovely writeup. didn't expect to like this but the lyrics and storytelling are quality. agree with the criticisms though about how the vocal approach/melodies could be stickier
