"Necrot are better than incantation to. And gorephilia are better than morbid angel. Outer heaven better than immolation and death. So on so forth lol"

Who's saying this? Just because some people aren't huge fans of cannibal corpse?

Everyone has their own opinion of course. But by saying this band is better than cannibal is pretty much like saying necrot is better than this other classic band as I stated. I respect that but at the same time it's not really something you say. Liking this band more than cannibal is completely different than saying this band is better. In my eyes you dont say a band that has a couple notches under their belt is better than one of the greats of the genre. Its disrespectful. Liking them more.... sure. But saying their better when they dont have the impact the discography the influence etc is a different matter entirely.

Is it though? I dont really think so. I've always found CC to be really overrated. Every band has their own history and respective context in the genre. Your leap in logic to apply the sentiment that people find CC overrated/boring to every other band in the genre is pretty disingenuous.

Also, when we start talking about liking music better vs saying something is better than something else, we've almost assuredly gone too far down the semantics rabbit hole

Man I'm not trying to be that guy. All I'm saying is you respect the bands that paved the way. I mean Hell I don't like deicide I prefer tomb mold. But I wouldn't jump on tomb molds manor of infinite forms page and say these guys are better band than deicide. You no. I mean like who you like im not trying to start anything I'm in a decent mood relaxing jamming music. But again in my eyes you respect the pioneers whether you like a newer band more or not. I'm sure as hell not going to say random new doom band that has 2 albums is better than black sabbath. Lol.

I mean I kinda get what you're saying. You do you, the rest of us will do us. Is CC important to dm in general and the genre? Sure, absolutely. Do I find a lot of albums by less visible/newer bands better than their albums? Hell yeah I do. At the end of the day it's an opinion on music and I guarantee u nobody from CC gives a fuck what evilford on sputnikmusic thinks about their shit.

Im not trying to start shit, I just don't appreciate words being put in my mouth, a la necrot is better than incantation etc

what i don't really understand is some people's obsession with keeping everything "anti-revisionism" for lack of a better term

if an osdm band releases an album in 2021 that produces a rendition of a sound that sounds better than a band trying for a similar sound in 1991, great, i'll rate the 2021 album higher

True shadow. The problem is alot of the newer bands dont produce music that is better than the older stuff. Occasionally it happens. But idk to me it just dont usually beat out the classics. Their classics for a reason. This is a good band but hell I dont see myself putting this above incantation mortal throne anytime soon.

like if we're talking about a band like father befouled which is basically ripping off incantation, incantation is just a better band in this case because they are the best at "caverncore" or whatever you want to call it

Right. Like I love gorephilia in the eye of nothing I seen ford rate that pretty high to. But I could never put that over covenant by morbid. It's a bit to samey to me. It's almost like their wearing their influences a bit much. At least to me. They sound a bit to much like morbid for their own good. But hell the album slays so oh well

in the eye of nothing as an album is also better than anything morbid angel has done (as an album) since covenant
