They had the audacity to put the worn vinyl ring on the cover but they didn’t even cut the album into sides. I’m dropping this album down a half star now.

"Perhaps the most “Weezer” thing about Van Weezer is how frustratingly inconsistent it is" what a fucking burn hahaha

I agree with CaliggyJack. It starts out great to me with The End Of The World. But the rest is mostly flat and no more than ok background music. And Weezer’s style should be anything but that.

not to be too meanie but my god this is a laughable review? that opening sentence? a lot of statements that are stupidly contradictory/make zero sense (eg "While heavy ‘80s rock riffs might often suit Weezer songs, Weezer songs – rarely strutting battle-cries of sex, sacrifice and boulder-eating testosterone – are generally too sensitive, smart and surf friendly to carry them.")? the insane amount of types of rock this apparently encompasses ("teenage rock fandom; ‘Beginning Of The End’ is a pomp-rock anthem about crippling pre-gig stage fright, as far from “Hello Cleveland!” as riff rock has ever got. The air of cock-rock cosplay hangs pretty heavily.")? wild

For whatever reason I liked this more than anything they’ve done in the past like 15 years but the shiny perfect production still makes me yearn for the days of el scorcho’s off key singing and shit

I'll never understand how people love a song whose lyrics are "What's with these homies dissin' my girl / Why do they gotta front?" but find a way to hate everything else that Weezer has done lol.

First half of the album is great. Second half is good enough.
