"it's a grower, not a show-er"
big time. i'm walking the line between bored out of my mind and completely captivated. crazy

I'm leaning towards thinking this is dull. Very disappointed, I was looking forward to it. Single black point exemplifies the problems imo, completely redundant track that adds nothing interesting.

i enjoy pyroscene. maybe the rest will grow on me, but this is definitely SO ethereal that there isn't much substance for me to hold on to and remember.
the guitars are pretty low in the mix too.

I maintain that the difficulty with this comes from expecting X and getting Y. It took some weird self control to stop myself wishing this had at least one hecking heavy as all hell moment and appreciate just how wonderfully the songs are crafted and how lush Nick's drumming is. At the end of the day I'm still conflicted but it's crazy how much changing one's mindset going into this changes the listening experience.

yeah, this is a super chill album. the drumming is cool but part of me listens and says "Okay, now CRANK THE VOLUME GO HEAVY" you know?

I’m absolutely on board with what this is trying to be, yet I still feel like there might be a limit to my enjoyment. It’s a perfectly good album, I just can’t see myself revisiting this much now I’m familiar with it.

@momentz agreed, particularly at the midpoint of Ritual Circle. Listening to that the first time I was literally like "yes boys FINALLY yes keep it going crank up those RIFFS yes yES YESSS ... wtf ... why it quiet now?"

This is the hardest 3.0 I've heard in a hot minute, Ritual Circle and Pyrocene are decent and their sound is at least pretty distinctive, but I've never jived with their guitar sound/choice of very-melodies and that kinda carries this for the most part. Hmm
Sweet review though

lolwha. sorry state if all you can do with your instincts is survive off them - don't tell me you've followed up on a buy-this-immediately itch on ebay and realised multiple weeks later that your life achieved most of its meaning as a result

Yep. Just about sums it up.

Dude I had the new DFA 1979 album queued up after this finished on Spotify and I realized a couple songs into the DFA album that it was a totally different band/album lol
