The edgy metal gatekeeping douchebags in here make me cringe sometimes.

so how many bands from this scene/sound are still going? is this stuff still pretty popular? i mean the sort of progressive, 'djentcore' whatever bands that were all really popular early-mid 2010s

just feel like this stuff has sort of died down finally

Only the bigger names that were around since the beginning are still thriving, it's not a hugely popular sound anymore

This is my current AOTY too but I haven't listened to much new stuff this year. ETID is my most anticipated.

"Periphery and Meshuggah worship definitely going on. This genre has really lost my interest since 2013. Same formula of cramming polyrhythms and 0-0-000-0-0 open string abuse. Along with all the usual tropes of the genre, I can't help but wonder if this will go the way of Nu-metal. Anyway, I don't know why I bothered with this album. I'll see myself out."

Dude, this genre has been around for about 15 years, way longer than any nu metal. So stop gatekeeping.

Sounds like a 1.0. Quality control is a good thing and therefore "gatekeeping" is sometimes a good thing.

"I can't help but wonder if this will go the way of Nu-metal"
That happened already and quicker than it did with nu-metal.

Can't wait for all the non-Erra fans on the site to start listening and rating this, but at the same time it would be really funny if the avg for this ended up staying higher than Augment's.

Oh it'll definitely come down lol. My guess is somewhere between a 3.6 and 3.8 aka right around Impulse. Slightly lower than Augment and slightly higher than Neon and Drift.

I never pay attention to the averages but this having a higher avg. than their best work when only half of the album is good is so whack.
