Yeah, that’s fair, but the reason I (and I imagine a lot of the community) love Sput, is it’s very easy for any user to have an influence on the site. Those Jazz weeks we started doing are a testament. There’s like minded people out there, and if you put your voice out there for it, you’ll find like minds. (Where’s the Sput Gamelan crew at??)
And it would probably feel more engaging than a rote 2.5 review from someone in a genre/style they don’t have a particular taste for

I'm about to listen to this when I get off work. Mike's sober now, so as unfortunate as it is for me to say this, so many bands start to suck when they quit drugs. Especially a band like this that has always been basically a heroin worship band. We'll see though, hopefully it's good, always loved this band.

There are those that could probably take up the task of reviewing avant-jazz-whatever-core albums too, rather than asking those “disso-bm” guys to do it.

Tbf I don't think I'm asking you to do it, all I really want is and this includes all staff and contributors to expand your palettes a bit and review something new that isn't in your normal purview, to challenge yourself a bit more with what you guys listen to and review some of the newer releases from some of the more underrated genres on sputnik.
Agreed porc, I think it just comes from my perception of how many staffers get shitloads of comments on their reviews and how little attention gets paid to normal Sputnik reviews unless it's on a new release and even then it comes down to the choice of genre and if it's been hyped or not by the usual people.

I'd like more the idea of new staffs and contribs acquinted with those new genres you re trying to enhance, other than ppl reviewing stuff they re not familiared with (that ll be just a fun exercise).
Its also important to differentiate listening to new stuff and reviewing new stuff. One step at a time imo.

A type of blues/folk music that goes back to the roots of blues and reinterprets the genre through that aspect of it. In fact it's pretty much a very scrapheap like genre with the composition of many songs being like frankenstein's monsters of different guitar playing styles and tonalities. It was pioneered by John Fahey, Robbie Basho and Leo Kottke.

I've wiki the genre (american primitive) in the meantime. Rec me an album. Cheers. Good debate.
|
| |
Agreed deftones it's just this site doesn't attract those types of people who specialise in these types of genres, which is why the fact that I feel there needs to be more diversity in taste in staff.

Best album to rec is John Fahey - America or Fare Forward Voyagers. Both are vocalless and it's all about the guitar but there's some really good jams on there in particular the title track on America is gorgeous.

Sorry triple post,
Yeah Dedex is awesome, I'll shoutbox them sometime.

Rec taken. If you're interested in a master developer of the 12string Portuguese Guitar here s a a couple from Carlos Paredes - Guitarra Portuguesa e Movimento Perpetuo. Also all about guitar and vocalless, folk and fado rooted.
This way we swap roots (assuming you re american D'OH!sorry if I assumed wrongly)
