lol, that’s because my review of this ate up all the initial comments. Then again, even that review only has 7 pages, so I can see what you mean

Ok can confirm Ringside and Song in E best
A fair step down from her last two but on a base level her voice is too purdy for me to ever bore of Julien Baker tbh

like 75% of the Punisher thread is shitposting lol, this album is less high-profile and better written so it doesn't invite that kind of attention

True, true. I think Phoebe's always naturally attracted a lot of shitposting anyway

she's been embracing her meme status since boygenius. to her credit though her PR team are absolutely top tier, I think I saw her name on an article every single week in lockdown last year, even if was mostly dumb clickbait
meanwhile I assume Julien was writing good music

"like 75% of the Punisher thread is shitposting lol, this album is less high-profile and better written so it doesn't invite that kind of attention"
lol for real. no fun memeing Julien in the first place, and this album's hype train is far less silly

I feel like "Song in E" should be kind of forgettable and a low point here but it keeps rattling around in my head.

I wish this had more shitposting than punisher tbh

“I used to like Logic, y'know the rapper, but the needle drop just reviews him so poorly... I just don’t really care for his music now”

this is really similar to her last album. less hooky, but the melodies are less corny. shes gonna need to switch it up on her next one though or i'll be bored

Am I the only one who thinks "Favor" is the clear standout here? Like this is an incredible record but like... wow

What's with this avg?? 0.2 lower than her last seems a bit harsh for the sentiments I've seen

I wanted to like this but honestly it’s just middle of the road indie for me
We’ll always have sprained ankle tho

Eh, this is much more listenable than Sprained Ankle.

I disagree but the last four songs here were alright

This is in many ways her weakest record i think, but it is still a solid record. it grew on me at least

hearing Turn Out the Lights first definitely skewed my perceptions — but that record is so raw and her performance is so huge that it'll be really hard to top, IMO
but I like how this record is more textured and varied. I just wish its range was a little bigger — higher highs and lower lows, dynamics-wise, suit Julien so well.
